It’s a lot of hard work to be the CEO of the Walt Disney Company, undoubtedly, but let’s not forget the job pays, and well!
The subject of what senior executives at Disney get paid is always a dicey one. While their job is undoubtedly stressful and admittedly challenging, the compensation is noteworthy. Many would argue that the financial compensation for the gig more than covers the stresses of the job.
But Bob Iger’s recent pay for 2023 was revealed, and fans are utterly unimpressed with the CEO. Here’s the story.
Bob Iger Paid $31.6 Million in 2023; Fans Call Out CEO for Unfair Practices
Recently, the LA Times shared Disney CEO Bob Iger’s compensation for the year, and it’s a sizeable amount. The current CEO of the Walt Disney Company was compensated $31.6 million for his services as Disney’s chief executive officer in 2023.
As the news outlet explained, “The majority of Iger’s compensation came from stock and option awards — $16.1 million — while his salary landed at $865,385. Disney also spent $1.2 million to cover Iger’s security and about $794,000 for his personal air travel.”
It’s unsurprising that Mr. Iger’s job would have this big a paycheck attached to it—heading up all of the Walt Disney Company, including the theme parks (Walt Disney World, Disneyland domestically, and others internationally), Walt Disney International, and more, is more work than one might assume.
But fans were not particularly upset at his paycheck itself, they were more upset that Mr. Iger had spoken out against the writers and actors strike, which was centered around fair pay while having this high a salary himself.
Bob Iger earned $31.6M in 2023 whilst he refused to pay actors & writers fairly for months.

One fan commented, “It’s ridiculous how much these CEOS get paid, but how much do they actually contribute to making the products that earn them millions per year?”
Another agreed, “Common issue in the industry, just shows how little they care about the actual people making the content.”
However, not everyone was on board with this view. One fan shared their perspective:
Bob Iger also oversees all of the Walt Disney company. Not just Walt Disney studios. These kind of posts from discussing film largely overlooked that because they are trying to very much push a narrative that isn't based in reality

Another fan even wondered aloud about the compensation, sharing that he felt it wasn’t as much as he expected Mr. Iger would have been paid.
I mean a $31M salary to run Disney really isn’t that much. And let’s be real writers and filmmakers make a lot of money already pre strike. I would honestly have thought Iger would be pulling at least $100M but maybe he owns a lot of stock.

It’s important to note that while the Disney CEO has always been one of the highest-paid Hollywood executives, his current compensation actually falls short of the $65.6 million he received in 2018 and the $45.9 million in 2021. The CEO seems to have taken a pay cut as well, despite the admittedly high payday.
