‘Jurassic Park’ Films Series Is Officially Extinct Again

Talk of another Jurassic World installment has already started circulating.

Last year, reports claimed that director Gareth Edwards is in talks with Universal Pictures to direct a follow-up to Jurassic World Rebirth, with members of the new cast ensemble, including Scarlett Johansson, also in negotiations to return.

Most recently, the new domain name jurassicworldliberation.com, which redirects users directly to the official Jurassic website, fueled speculation that the next film would be subtitled Liberation. Nothing has been confirmed by the studio, but either way, given the last film's box-office taking, the films will undoubtedly continue under the World banner.

Jurassic Park Films Unlikely To Return

The Jurassic World era has generated approximately $4.85 billion worldwide, and Rebirth alone brought in $869.1 million.

The film was described as “the start of a new Jurassic era,” yet it retained the World branding — a telling choice that Universal Pictures more than likely has no intention of bringing back the franchise's original Jurassic Park banner. At least not while the Jurassic World films continue to succeed at the box office.

The Park Era Will Return in a New Form

The original Jurassic Park trilogy remains highly influential. Spielberg’s 1993 film reshaped blockbuster filmmaking, and its sequels carried the brand into the early 2000s.

But no film has carried the Jurassic Park title since 2001. In the years since, the franchise has evolved into something broader and more commercially expansive under World.

The legacy timeline, however, will continue — just not in cinemas. The upcoming first-person action-adventure video game Jurassic Park: Survival is set 24 hours after the events of Spielberg's original film, offering a direct narrative extension in virtual form.
