Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine for 26 years, but now the iconic X-Men character is already being brought to life by another actor.
Jackman first debuted as Logan in 2000's X-Men, and went on to reprise the role throughout the Fox franchise and the Wolverine solo trilogy. He eventually brought the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
While Jackman is expected to return as Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday (2026), alongside Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson/Deadpool following a promotional video, Marvel hasn't confirmed his involvement. For now, though, fans can see what another actor will bring to the role in the upcoming video game Marvel's Wolverine.
Liam McIntyre Is the New Wolverine
Liam McIntyre (Gears of War) provides the voice, likeness, and motion capture for Wolverine in Insomniac Games' upcoming title, which is a brutal third-person action-adventure, with the official synopsis promising “brutal claw combat, violent rage, and relentless determination” as Logan searches for answers about his past.
Now, McIntyre is promoting the new game, giving fans a closer look at the actor himself. In a recent interview with Back Pocket, the Australian actor described taking on the role as a “huge responsibility”.

The New X-Men Cast
Meanwhile, Marvel Studios has begun preparing an entirely new generation of mutants for the MCU, meaning Jackman's version of Wolverine may eventually need to make way for a new actor.
After months of speculation, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink was revealed to be Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), paving the way for the MCU's X-Men. Marvel then revealed Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops. Following that announcement, Christopher Abbott was announced as Professor X, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister at D23.
A new Wolverine actor, however, has not yet been announced.
For now, Hugh Jackman seemingly remains as Logan in the MCU — while Liam McIntyre is preparing to give fans another version of the legendary mutant.
