James Bond has never existed solely on the big screen, and 007 is entering a particularly busy period across almost every form of media.
The video game side has already delivered 007 First Light (2026) from IO Interactive earlier this year, with Patrick Gibson (Dexter: Original Sin) playing a younger version of the spy.
The literary side is also expanding with Kim Sherwood's Hurricane Room, Vaseem Khan's The Man with the Golden Compass, M. W. Craven's James Bond and the Secret Agent Academy, and Charlie Higson's King Zero.
King Zero is particularly interesting because it continues a version of Bond's story that Higson introduced in his 2023 adult short story On His Majesty's Secret Service (2023).
But to clear up any confusion, it isn't connected to the similarly-titled 1969 movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), which starred George Lazenby. Instead, it represents Higson's own continuation of the adult 007.
“Charlie Higson’s return to James Bond follows his outstanding success with On His Majesty’s Secret Service, commissioned for the King’s Coronation, and we are delighted to be working with Charlie again, bringing the next chapter of Bond to fans,” Amanda Douglas, Managing Director of Ian Fleming Publications Ltd, said in an official announcement via IanFleming.com.
According to MI6-HQ.com, who interviewed Higson about King Zero earlier this year, the book is “his first full-length adult James Bond continuation novel.”
The novel follows Bond after the events of On His Majesty's Secret Service, beginning with a murdered agent in the Saudi desert and sending 007 around the world as he uncovers a dangerous conspiracy. King Zero arrives this September, giving readers a new full-length Bond adventure before the next movie even reaches theaters.

Higson's earlier Young Bond books are also returning in a new form.
Big Finish Productions is adapting SilverFin (2005) as a full-cast audio drama, with Isaac Rouse (The Crown) starring as the teenage 007 and Charlotte McBurney as his ally Wilder Lawless.
All of this is happening while Amazon MGM Studios prepares the next cinematic chapter. The untitled James Bond film is being directed by Denis Villeneuve (the Dune films) and written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), following Daniel Craig's final outing, No Time to Die (2021).
The movie will reboot the cinematic continuity with a new actor, and speculation around who has inherited the 007 role has intensified in recent weeks.
Jack Lowden (Slow Horses) remains one of the names most closely associated with the rumors, while producer Amy Pascal has suggested that fans could learn more by the end of 2026.
So while the next movie remains the biggest mystery, Bond is already moving forward in books, audio, and gaming.
