Disney Confirms Peter Pan Ride Will Shut Down Just 33 Months After Opening

Disney is preparing to close one of its most popular recent attractions: Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure.

Peter Pan has been part of Disney's theme parks since 1955, when Peter Pan's Flight debuted as an opening-day attraction at Disneyland. Based on the 1953 animated film, the ride sends guests flying over London and Never Land aboard suspended pirate ships.

The attraction subsequently opened at Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disneyland. While each version has its differences, all five follow the same basic format, taking guests through scenes inspired by the original film.

Disney eventually decided to expand Peter Pan's presence beyond the classic Fantasyland dark ride. Its latest interpretation arrived in 2024 as part of a massive expansion featuring several of the company's most successful animated properties.

Now, Disney has confirmed that the newer attraction will temporarily shut down in March 2027, just 33 months after its grand opening.

Disney Sets March 2027 Closure for Peter Pan Attraction

Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure opened at Tokyo DisneySea on June 6, 2024, as part of Fantasy Springs, the park's eighth themed port.

The expansion cost approximately 320 billion yen, equivalent to roughly $2.1 billion at the time, and introduced three themed areas inspired by Frozen (2013), Tangled (2010), and Peter Pan (1953).

Alongside Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure, the expansion added Anna and Elsa's Frozen Journey, Rapunzel's Lantern Festival, and Fairy Tinker Bell's Busy Buggies. It also introduced the Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel, which offers 475 guest rooms.

Unlike Peter Pan's Flight, the newer attraction uses a motion-based boat ride system, 3D visuals, and physical sets to recreate Never Land.

Guests board 12-person boats and join Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, and the Lost Kids on a mission to rescue John Darling from Captain Hook. The experience lasts approximately six minutes and has a minimum height requirement of 102 centimeters, or about 40 inches.

However, the ride will soon become temporarily unavailable.

According to the official Tokyo Disney Resort refurbishment schedule, Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure will close on March 9, 2027, and remain closed through March 16.

The attraction is scheduled to reopen on March 17, although Disney warns that refurbishment dates are subject to change.

Disney has not confirmed the reason for the eight-day closure or whether guests will notice any changes when the ride reopens.

The shutdown is temporary, with no announcement suggesting that Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure will be permanently removed from Fantasy Springs.

The closure also comes during Tokyo DisneySea's 25th anniversary celebrations, which began on April 15, 2026.

The Sparkling Jubilee event runs through March 31, 2027, offering special entertainment, merchandise, decorations, and food throughout the park. Guests visiting during the final weeks of the celebration will therefore encounter the Peter Pan refurbishment.

Both Peter Pan Rides Scheduled to Close as Disney Plans More Changes

Interestingly, Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure isn't the only Peter Pan attraction scheduled for maintenance at Tokyo Disney Resort in 2027.

Over at Tokyo Disneyland, the original Peter Pan's Flight will close from January 6 through February 2, according to Disney's refurbishment calendar.

The attraction has operated at Tokyo Disneyland since the park opened in April 1983, making it more than four decades older than its Tokyo DisneySea counterpart.

Both Peter Pan rides will therefore undergo separate closures during the first three months of 2027, although neither is currently scheduled to be unavailable at the same time.

Several other major attractions will also close across the resort.

At Tokyo DisneySea, Journey to the Center of the Earth will shut down on January 8 and remain unavailable through March 8. The attraction is scheduled to reopen the same day Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure closes.

Both stations of the DisneySea Electric Railway will also close from January 8 through February 10.

Later in March, Raging Spirits will begin a refurbishment lasting from March 17 through April 10, while Sindbad's Storybook Voyage will close from March 17 through April 16.

Tokyo Disneyland has its own lengthy list of scheduled closures.

Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions will shut down on January 6 for an extended refurbishment lasting through March. Splash Mountain will close from January 7 through February 4, while Haunted Mansion will be unavailable from January 8 through February 4.
