Apple’s latest, the Apple Vision Pro headset, is going to have special content from Disney+ at its launch, per recent reports.
For months now there have been rumors going around that tech giant Apple is going to acquire the Walt Disney Company and save the company from its recent financial woes. It’s no secret that Disney has been going through it; when Disney CEO Bob Iger returned to the helm, one of his main tasks was restructuring the company and cutting costs to the tune of $5.5 billion.
As it turns out, Mr. Iger succeeded with that cost-cutting (in fact, he exceeded it), but at the same time, as time passed, more analysts are increasingly certain that there’s no way Disney will be bailed out by anybody, let alone Apple.
However, even if the tech giant isn’t about to financially bail out the Mouse House anytime soon, it’s still expressing its support for Disney in no uncertain terms by committing to collaborations and business partnerships with the Walt Disney Company.
Disney and Apple’s partnership for the Apple Vision Pro headset is one we’ve reported on previously. Now, the companies are doubling down on that collaboration with the inclusion of 3D movies from Disney+ in Apple’s latest VR headset. As reported by Disney themselves, among Apple Vision pro users, “Disney Plus subscribers will get special animated screening environments to accompany them.”
Along with Disney+ (now including 3D movies), ESPN, MLB, PGA Tour, Max, Discovery Plus, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount Plus, Peacock, Pluto TV, Tubi, Fubo, Crunchyroll, Red Bull TV, IMAX, TikTok, and MUBI will all have Apple Vision Pro support as well. However, eagle-eyed fans will notice one name is missing from this list: Netflix.
According to The Verge, executives have confirmed that only previous versions of the app will work on this VR headset.
This is certainly another step in a long and strong relationship between Disney and Apple, beginning with Bob Iger’s friendship with Steve Jobs, and continuing into the future.
It’s certainly going to be interesting to see what these two innovators will come up with to disrupt and create new forms of storytelling.
