Rumors abound on the internet that the popular television show Wednesday might leave Netflix after legal issues take center stage, but are they real?

Ever since Jenna Ortega-starrer Wednesday premiered on Netflix, it’s become one of the most-watched television series on the internet. The show is a version of the Addams family and is an American coming-of-age supernatural comedy horror television series based on the character Wednesday Addams by Charles Addams.

Wednesday’s torturous journey that began in season one made waves, and fans have been greatly looking forward to its next season… but the latest rumors claim the future of the show might be in jeopardy.

Netflix Announces Season 2 of Wednesday

On January 7, 2023, Netflix announced the second season of Wednesday. The video opened with a voiceover from Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega, where she explains, “Over the last few weeks, I’ve been hunted, haunted, and mimicked millions of times across the internet. It’s been pure torture. Thank you.”

The trailer then went on to say, “More Misery Is Coming,” although Netflix didn’t give us a date. They just informed us that the series had been renewed for another season.

For months now, fans have been waiting with bated breath to find out more about the upcoming season. However, the latest news left many shocked rather than satisfied.

Rumors Fly that Netflix Lost Streaming Rights to Wednesday

A report from Ticker.tv explains that the streaming giant Netflix might have lost the rights to the iconic comedy-horror show. The article explains, “According to industry insiders, the rights to “Wednesday” may have been acquired by a rival streaming platform. While the exact details remain undisclosed, this news has left fans of the show disappointed and curious about the future of the series.”

At the moment, there has been no official confirmation from Netflix about the possible loss of streaming rights to this show, but if it is true, the implications could be catastrophic for the company. It means the company will no longer be able to produce any new episodes of the show and distribute it on their platform.

This said, there is one piece of good news in this.

Has Wednesday Been Canceled?

The short answer is, so far, it appears not. While Netflix may no longer house the television show, even the rumor clearly states that, at most, Wednesday has been acquired by a rival rather than canceled outright. This means that even if fans have to change where they watch the show, it will still be in production.

Here’s hoping the Tim Burton creation will continue to live up to its incredible start.
