Eleven-year-old Kevin O’Callaghan, from Mallow in Co Cork, Ireland, was on a Disney vacation with his family when he suffered a fall that would leave him paralyzed.

According to Irish MirrorKevin suffered a fall at his Resort Hotel while visiting Disneyland Paris Resort:

People are being asked to rally behind the family of a young Irish boy as he has been left paralysed after suffering a fall in a hotel on a family trip to Disneyland in France…later during the trip he fell in the soft play area of a hotel and lost all feeling in his body…Kevin had suffered compression of the spine and neck, following an MRI he was rushed into emergency surgery. Only his mother Eilis was able to accompany him to hospital due to current Covid-19 regulations in France.

It is unclear where exactly on Disneyland Paris Resort’s property Kevin had his fall, but it does appear clear that the incident did not occur in either Parc Disneyland or Walt Disney Studios Park, nor does it appear to have been related to any specific attractions.

“Kevin is the sportiest little fella,” said his older sister Rachel, “he plays a lot of sport including hurling, football and soccer, so he’s taken a knock before. When he said he couldn’t feel anything after he hit the ground, we initially thought it might be a concussion, but after he was taken to hospital for scans we knew something was seriously wrong.”

The accident appears to have occurred at least two and a half weeks before this article’s publication. A GoFundMe page was created four days ago to assist in his recovery, which states:

After a long journey today Kevin arrived back on Irish soil and was admitted to Temple St. Children’s Hospital Dublin for the next stage of his acute rehab before he will need ongoing intensive Rehab in a specialist unit, a place yet to be found.
Kevin is one of 8 children and his parents are trying hard to juggle work and family while being with Kevin for his inpatient rehab stay. The O’Callaghans will also need to make structural changes to their home in order to eventually bring Kevin home.
Please contribute whatever you can to support Kevin and his family. Donations however big or small will all be gratefully received and share it please where you can.

It features Disney favorites like the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, “it’s a small world,” and the Disneyland Railroad as well as some beloved original attractions like Space Mountain: Mission II, and Phantom Manor. The Resort also hosts Disney Springs’ sister shopping and dining center, Disney Village, and several Resort hotels like the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel, and Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe.

It is incredibly rare for such notable incidents to occur at a Disney hotel, or Theme Park, or ride, or anywhere on Disneyland Resort property and leave Guests in need of intensive care.
