After cries earlier this year to “boycott Disney,” fans have demanded the Mouse House’s boycott once again over a Disney-themed drag brunch.
The Walt Disney Company has weathered many controversies and navigated choppy waters on multiple counts. Whether with difficulty in the corporate and business world or with having a stream of flops at the box office, Disney has seen it all and (so far) has come out the other side relatively unscathed and, in some cases, even stronger than before.
At present, Disney is going through another rough patch—fans are not particularly happy with the state of any Disney theme park, and Disney movies are less than popular right now. Having said this, in the midst of this, cries to “boycott Disney” have resurfaced once more.
Why is Everyone Saying They’re Done With Disney?
There have been a variety of reasons that fans and formerly devoted Disney Park guests have denounced Disney and said they are done with the company. Some fans have insisted that the quality of the Disney Parks has gone down in recent years, while others have been frustrated with the content and quality of Disney movies.
However, calls to boycott Disney, in particular, have surfaced around Disney’s apparent support of the LGBTQ+ community and their treatment of the Turkish documentary.
This said, calls for Disney’s boycott have arisen again in response to an unofficial Disney-themed drag brunch. On Sunday, September 10, a back-to-school Disney-themed drag brunch was organized in British Columbia in Canada.
The organizers shared in the event descriptions that guests would, “Come and celebrate the start of the school year with some talented drag performers who will bring your favorite Disney moments to life! ”

However, many Disney fans didn’t take kindly to the news and shared their frustrations.
It keeps getting worse. Sigh

Many others agreed; most notably, one commenter even called for a boycott of Disney on seeing the poster.
Down with all things Disney.

The sentiment was one many shared when another user even went so far as to say, “I really hate Disney now.”
This isn’t the first time a Disney drag brunch has received this kind of response. In 2022, there were multiple Disney Drag Brunches that were planned in Texas; some were canceled, while with others, fans demanded a boycott of the shows.
In particular, in September 2022, “a bar in Denton…canceled their planned Disney Drag Brunch after right wing groups like Protect Texas Kids and people affiliated with Blaze TV called for the event to be ‘shut down.’ Proud Boys and armed militia showed up in response to such calls in the past.”
This kind of response detailed in the tweet of the Proud Boys—defined by Wikipedia as “an exclusively male North American far-right neo-fascist militant organization that promotes and engages in political violence”—showing up to these types of shows is certainly becoming more commonplace in the world of Disney.
This year we’ve reported multiple instances of Nazis going to Disney World and antagonizing guests.
What Are the Challenges Faced by the Walt Disney Company?
Disney has its work cut out for it. The company has just seen mass layoffs to the tune of 7000 people affected and is also working to reverse its losing streak at the box office.
Not only do they have to deal with these threats to the safety and security of their guests, but they also have to continue to work on fixing the business and cleaning up the mess that former Disney CEO Bob Chapek left when he was ousted from his position.
