Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board Member Bridget Ziegler attended the Board’s meeting this week…sort of. Ziegler attended the meeting via Zoom, but she did not appear on screen and only uttered one word at the end of the meeting. The fact that Ziegler is hiding from public view speaks volumes about the scandal currently surrounding her family.

Bridget Zieger’s husband, Christian Ziegler, who is the chair of the Florida Republican Party, was accused of raping a “friend of the family” last week. After allegations of the October incident were made public, officials in Florida called on Christian Ziegler to resign, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

But the scandal doesn’t stop there. Bridget Ziegler, who is the co-founder of Moms for Liberty, the conservative group that has worked to ban books in schools, has claimed in the past that she helped usher in the Parental Rights in Education Act, known by its critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The bill prohibits “classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity.” Ziegler was such an integral part of the bill that she stood directly behind Governor DeSantis as he signed it.

Perhaps Ziegler forgot or was unaware that the B in LGBTQ+ stands for bi-sexual. According to Newsweek, when Ziegler was interviewed by Sarasota Police in November about the incident with her husband, she confirmed that she, her husband, and the alleged victim were friends, and all three engaged in a consensual sexual encounter. The trio had also planned another threesome the night of the alleged rape, but Bridget Ziegler was unable to make it. The victim told police that without Bridget there, she did not want to partake in the encounter, but that was when Christian Ziegler allegedly raped her.

During the meeting, the Board voted to accept a report that accused Walt Disney World of buying favor with the former Reedy Creek Improvement District Board. The report, which chairman Martin Garcia said was compiled by “very qualified experts,” accuses Disney World of giving employees and Board members season passes and discounts on merchandise, food, and hotel rooms. None of those revelations are new, as the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board voted to strip employees of those perks earlier this year, instead replacing them with a $3,000 stipend that does not cover the cost of a season pass at Walt Dinsey World for a family of four.

The meeting opened with public comments from a resident of Celebration, the town created by the Walt Disney Company, calling on Bridget Ziegler to resign. There have also been calls for Ziegler to resign from the Sarasota County School Board.

The meeting ended with Garcia calling for a vote to accept the report and pass it on to Florida Gov Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature for future action against Disney. At this point, Ziegler meekly said, “Aye,” which was the only thing she said in the meeting. The motion passed unanimously.

There is no telling what will happen next in this case. Christian Ziegler has denied the allegations against him and has thus far refused to resign. Bridget Ziegler has yet to comment publicly on the allegations against her husband or if she plans to resign from the Board of DeSantis appointees.
