When one thinks about the “Chapek Era” of The Walt Disney Company, four key people come to mind: Now-former Disney CEO Bob Chapek, Distribution Chairman Kareem Daniel, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro, and Disney CFO Christine McCarthy.
Over the last 24 hours, two of those four key characters have already been shown the door. Last night it started with Chapek, and it continued tonight with Daniel. And throughout the day, fans debated and speculated about D’Amaro’s future with the Mouse House. But what about McCarthy?
As of the publication of this article, Christine McCarthy is still Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Walt Disney Company. While she appeared to be a strong ally to Chapek, recent developments appear to show that she is not going anywhere for the time being. Her skills will be utilized by the returning CEO, Bob Iger.

In a memo to employees which addressed Daniel’s sudden departure, Iger stated,
“I’ve asked Dana Walden, Alan Bergman, Jimmy Pitaro, and Christine McCarthy to work together on the design of a new structure that puts more decision-making back in the hands of our creative teams and rationalizes costs, and this will necessitate a reorganization of Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution.”
But there is more to consider than just her ability to provide immediate financial help from her station. McCarthy was named Disney CFO in 2015 when Iger was still CEO. Since she is still right where Iger left her, one can speculate he is likely to keep her where she is. The same possibly goes for D’Amaro, who was chosen to take Chapek’s position in February 2020.
McCarthy also appears to have distanced herself from Iger’s first successor. According to an article in The New York Times, she “directly told at least one board member that she lacked confidence in Mr. Chapek. ‘He irretrievably lost the room.’”

It should be noted that this is all speculation, and any further changeup in staffing at Disney could happen at this point.
