The Walt Disney World Railroad has been shuttered for several years due to the ongoing construction of the Magic Kingdom’s newest Tomorrowland attraction, TRON: Lightcycle Power Run. The massive roller coaster is positioned on the outer side of the rails, resulting in the necessary closure.

But as the expansion nears completion, we are able to see the path Walt Disney Imagineers are expecting one of the world’s largest model trains to take in the near future. Images provided by @bioreconstruct show a series of tunnels created under the attraction.

There is no official confirmation regarding the makeup of this railroad tunnel, but it begs an important question: what is going to be in that tunnel?

In this reporter’s opinion, it is the perfect opportunity to give the Walt Disney World Railroad closer semblance to its older sister, the Disneyland Railroad. At the Anaheim Theme Park, the train offers more of a dark-ride ambiance by featuring a tunnel filled with animatronic dioramas of the Grand Canyon and Primeval World.

According to Disneyland’s website,

Between the Tomorrowland and Main Street, U.S.A. stations, a special treat awaits! See Walt Disney’s legendary dioramas of the Grand Canyon and Primeval World – Land of the Dinosaurs, where you’ll encounter a thrilling prehistoric land of towering Audio-Animatronics dinosaurs come to life.

I do not mean to argue that an exact replica of this should be added into the tunnels, but an enclosed “dark ride” experience seems logical for the new Tomorrowland segment of the track (especially considering Disney World’s Railroad does not stop in its Tomorrowland).

At this time, though, it is unclear what new experience will be placed beneath the Magic Kingdom’s two E-Ticket attractions. It is also still unclear when Guests can expect both TRON and the Walt Disney World Railroad to open.
