Many former Disney stars have spoken about their time on the Disney Channel, sharing the negative impact of Disney’s restrictive rules on them. From Selena Gomez to Dove Cameron, many have shared time and again how they either felt exploited or faced much hardship while working with Disney. This latest story, however, is one of the saddest reports we’ve written.
As Disney Fanatics would know, former Disney star Demi Lovato rose to fame in the late 2000s and early 2010s, largely thanks to her time with Disney. She first appeared in the Disney Channel short series As The Bell Rings in 2007. However, her role in the hit Disney Channel original movie Camp Rock (2008) really catapulted her to the heights of stardom she experienced. Lovato also had her own series, Sonny With a Chance (2009-2011), and starred in movies like Princess Protection Program with Selena Gomez.
Despite her success, Lovato struggled with several challenges when she was a Disney star that she has been open about retrospectively, including an eating disorder, substance abuse, and mental health issues. However, a video from her series Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil revealed something new.
In 2021, Lovato released her docu-series, Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil. The documentary focuses on Lovato’s struggles with addiction, mental health issues, and trauma; it also explores her near-fatal drug overdose in 2018. In the series, Lovato elaborates candidly about her experience and the events leading up to her overdose. Lovato also explained more of her prior struggles with body image, eating disorders, and her sexuality and identity.
@ghostindev Now Disney is trying to cover this up #demilovato #fyp #foryoupagе #foryou #parati
In a recent video that’s making the rounds on TikTok, it’s been highlighted that Demi Lovato had more than one difficult experience during her time at Disney, including sexual assault during her “first time.” Calling the incident her “#MeToo story,” she explains that her first time was one that was forced on her even though she told the person she didn’t want it to happen that way, but that “they didn’t care” and “did it anyway.”
It’s certainly a horrifying tale of a cover-up at Lovato shares that the person never suffered any consequences for what they did. They “never got in trouble for it” and she had to see them all the time.
Disney is a place of magic and wonder, but there is an unfortunate darkness that lies beneath as well.
