Despite Optimistic Testing, Disney World Railroad Expected to Stay Closed Through February

Disney World Railroad reopening

On the morning of December 7, a video was released by Touring Plans showing the Walt Disney World Railroad running tests on the new tunneled section through the area now occupied by the upcoming attraction TRON: Lightcycle Power Run.

It appears that everything is in order as one of the three narrow-gauge steam trains appears to pass through without issue.

However, even though it appears that the area is completed and ready to receive Guests once again, the Walt Disney World website tells a different story.

Upon inspection of the Walt Disney World Resort Park Hours and Magic Kingdom attractions listed as “Closed for Refurbishment,” the Walt Disney World Railroad keeps its place until at least February 5, managing the expectations of would-be Guests that the grand-circle rail tour will remain closed well into 2023.

The closure of the Walt Disney World Railroad has been a byproduct of the ongoing construction of the new Tomorrowland roller coaster next to Space Mountain, which impedes on the established train track. TRON is expected to open sometime in the Spring of 2023 but is unclear if that opening will be prefaced with the Walt Disney Railroad reopening. It is one of the most iconic Magic Kingdom attractions and modes of transportation.
