Disney and Marvel May Recast She-Hulk With Controversial ‘Star Wars’ Actor

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022) gave Jennifer Walters her own spotlight in the MCU, blending superhero action with humor and courtroom drama, while Tatiana Maslany brought charm, wit, and grounded humanity to the character, making the series a distinctive entry in Disney+’s Marvel lineup.

However, after negative reviews, the show’s second season was scrapped, leaving fans without closure and raising questions about She-Hulk’s future in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Those questions became more pressing after Avengers: Doomsday announced its very extensive cast, as She-Hulk was noticeably missing from the lineup, even as other heroes like Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man) are set to return for the Multiverse-spanning event next year.

What makes things even more complicated are rumors surrounding Maslany’s lack of interest in returning to the role. While nothing has been confirmed, speculation that she may not want to work with Disney again adds another layer of uncertainty.

Earlier this year, the actress urged fans to cancel their Disney+ subscriptions after ABC, a Disney-owned network, temporarily suspended talk show host Jimmy Kimmel over comments he made about the public assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.

According to entertainment industry insider My Time to Shine (via Geek Tyrant), Maslany “has no interest” in working with Disney. Although the report also says that the studio wants She-Hulk to appear “in a big way” in Avengers: Secret Wars, the sequel to Doomsday.

“Marvel Studios wanted to use She-Hulk in a big way for Avengers Secret Wars. The problem is that Tatiana Maslany has no interest in working for Disney. If they’re unable to convince her to return, the options are to remove the character altogether or recast the role.”

If the character is to appear in future projects like Doomsday and Secret Wars, Disney and Marvel might need to consider alternatives — and that’s where a recasting comes in.

One star that comes to mind is Gina Carano. Her background in MMA and action-heavy roles like Cara Dune in The Mandalorian gives her a physical presence that could make She-Hulk feel genuinely formidable on-screen, especially in the large-scale battles typical of ensemble Avengers films.

While Carano's own history with Disney has been controversial — she was fired in 2021 for sharing divisive social media posts, which led to her filing a lawsuit against the company that was settled earlier this year — it doesn’t change the fact that she could bring intensity, strength, and a commanding screen presence to Jennifer Walters in a way that aligns with the character’s superhero side. Not only that, but given her impressive build, there may not even be any need for CG.

This is, of course, purely speculative, but it’s an interesting possibility.

With Maslany’s status unknown, She-Hulk absent from Doomsday and presumably other future MCU projects, and the second season of her show canceled, imagining a new take on the character is fun. But it might also be inevitable.

If Maslany doesn't return, Carano could offer a bold, action-oriented interpretation that contrasts with the comedic tone of the original series while still honoring what makes Jennifer Walters compelling — her intelligence, confidence, and unstoppable energy.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is now streaming on Disney+. Doomsday releases in theaters on December 18, 2026.
