Disney had been teasing fans with the possibility of a special announcement on New Year’s Eve, and we finally know what it is!
It’s the first day of 2024, which means we’re through with one more cycle around the sun and are looking forward to an exciting year from and with Disney! We opened 2024 with a special announcement from Disney—one they teased for a few days leading up to New Year’s Eve in Times Square.

Disney Promises a Surprise During New Year’s Eve
As theme park journalist Scott Gustin took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share that “A special ‘Disney surprise’ is being teased for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest this Sunday on ABC. The ‘surprise’ is expected to air in the 11 p.m. hour.”
Fans took to the opportunity to poke a little fun at Disney in good faith, referencing various announcements the company had made over the last to years.

For example, one fan referenced Josh D’Amaro’s presentation during D23, writing, “It’s to announce that maybe in 2024 they are thinking of possibly releasing more blue sky art of what they could maybe, possibly, consider to build when they possibly supercharge the back half of the decade. Maybe. Possibly. Conceptually. It’s still blue sky.”

However, as it turned out, the actual announcement left fans more disappointed.
The DBCPod shared that the “promised surprise” was an “announcement that Disney will be coming to your city to ask about your favorite Disney memories…And to stay tuned.”

Fans shared in response, “I didn’t expect a big announcement, but this was even less of an announcement than I thought it would be.”
Another commented, “I tuned in right when he said that, I thought I missed the first part of it. Embarrassing that’s what it was.”
A third fan responded: “Over promise and under deliver!”

Of course, it remains to be seen how this announcement will actually manifest but it certainly seems to have left many fans a little disillusioned. Here’s hoping Disney surprises us all with the execution of this plan!
