In 2013, Disney introduced new technology at its theme parks that was a total game changer. MagicBands allowed Guests to keep their room key and theme park ticket right on their wrist! No more digging through your bag for your tickets. Over the years, Disney’s MagicBand has evolved, and now we have MagicBand+. With MagicBand+, Guests can not only enter their hotel room and the Parks, but also pay for merchandise, become a Bounty Hunter in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and enjoy fun lights and vibrations during nighttime spectaculars.

Now, Disney is bringing the excitement of its bands to the Disney Cruise Line! On April 6, Disney announced its newest way to enjoy a Disney Cruise — the DisneyBand+. Disney Parks Blog shared more on DisneyBand+.

DisneyBand+ will make unlocking your stateroom door, charging a sweet treat or a souvenir to your payment card on your stateroom folio as easy as tapping your wrist. And no matter where your vacation takes you, you can be assured that your DisneyBand+ is adventure-proof. Wear it while you cool off at the pool, go snorkeling at Disney Castaway Cay or take a thrilling plunge on AquaMouse!

Even the littlest explorers can experience the magic of DisneyBand+. Children ages 3 and up can also use their bands in lieu of the Oceaneer Club Band to access kids’ clubs including Disney’s Oceaneer Club while onboard and Scuttle’s Cove at Castaway Cay.

We also have good news for Disney fans who visit the theme parks but are thinking of going on their first Disney Cruise, your MagicBand+ will work onboard the ship! However, it is important to note that the original MagicBands and MagicBand 2.0 will NOT work onboard. And just like your MagicBand+ will work onboard, Guests who purchase a DisneyBand+ on a Disney Cruise ship will also be able to use the band in Disney theme parks.

Disney has not given an official date when DisneyBand+ will become a part of the Disney Cruise Line. However, they have shared that Guests aboard the Disney Wish will be the first to experience the new band.

DisneyBand+ will only be the newest addition to the Disney Cruise Line as it celebrates its 25 anniversary. Guests enjoying Disney cruises during the Silver Anniversary at Sea will also be able to enjoy limited-time food offerings, special fireworks shows, and special themed merchandise. Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie will also be wearing brand-new outfits. It’s the perfect time to book a Disney cruise!
