For all our older Disney Channel fans, one iconic show is coming back on the Disney Channel with its former stars returning as executive producers.
Growing up with Disney Channel shows and movies means that often, this writer finds herself reminiscing about the “good old days” of television that is familiar. Shows like Kim Possible, Hannah Montana, and Wizards of Waverly Place brought my childhood and teenage self much joy.
Well, today, we have news that makes my older Disney fan heart incredibly happy!
Wizards of Waverly Place is Getting a Sequel
As reported by Deadline, the signature Disney Channel comedy Wizards of Waverly Place will be getting a sequel. The outlet explained,“Disney Branded Television has ordered a pilot for the follow-up, which is executive produced by original stars Selena Gomez and her small screen sibling David Henrie.”
Selena Gomez is going to guest star as Alex Russo in the pilot of the episode—a special moment since Alex Russo is the role that helped launch the former Disney star’s career—and David Henrie, who played Justin Russo, will be reprising his role as a series regular.
Henrie will be joined by a new cast comprising Janice LeAnn Brown (Disney’s Just Roll with It), Alkaio Thiele (Call Me Kat), and Mimi Gianopulos (American Princess), among others. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, the writers and producers behind Raven’s Home—the sequel to That’s So Raven—are the minds behind this sequel.
Per Deadline,
It picks up after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons. But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his door… and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World.
The original Disney Channel show featured Selena Gomez, David Henrie, and Jake T. Austin in lead roles as the Russo siblings. Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera, and David DeLuise were also a part of the cast.
