In the northeast corner of the Caribbean sits Hurricane Fiona, a formerly Category 3 storm that was reportedly able to leave the entire island of Puerto Rico without power as just a Category 1 and has now grown into a Category 4 as it makes its way up the Gulf Stream to Bermuda. A recent report shows that the storm caused Disney Cruise Line to completely alter the course of at least one of its cruises, but these reports come from individual emails.
Plenty of activity in the tropics but it’s #Invest98L that we will have to watch very closely for next week! Stay with @WESH for updates on the tropics folks. #weshwx pic.twitter.com/2F7Z9jzTOP

A recent email, according to cruisehive.com, read, in part, as the following:
“Based on the storm’s forecast track and the possible impact to the Eastern Caribbean over the next few days, we have made the decision to change your itinerary…The safety and well-being of our guests and crew members is our highest priority. We appreciate your understanding regarding this necessary itinerary change…based on the current predicted storm timing and path, we do not anticipate additional changes to other sailings at this time.”
Meanwhile, no additional official weather advisory was made by Disney Cruise Line since the storm descended on the Eastern Caribbean. This individual sailing, which departed on September 16 and was handled by the Disney Fantasy, no longer took Guests on an Eastern Caribbean cruise originally destined for the British Virgin Islands, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Disney’s Private Island Castaway Cay. Instead, Guests were treated to a last-minute Western Caribbean cruise that went to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica.
The report goes on to mention that all excursions previously booked through Disney Cruise Line, branded “Port Adventures,” were refunded. Due to no official advisory from Disney Cruise Line, it is unclear at this time how many sailings were actually altered last minute due to Hurricane Fiona.
Disney Cruise Line prioritizes the safety of its passengers, and its ability to improvise sailings so drastically, suddenly, and almost seamlessly proves once again its magic-making abilities and why it is considered one of the best cruise lines in the world.
We at Disney Fanatic will continue to update our readers on Disney Cruise Line news and stories as more developments come to light.
