Disney Eliminates Fixed Cost of Genie+, Allows Daily Price Increases

Disney Genie+ Price Increases

Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products have decided that the cost of its latest add-on tool, Genie+, will depend on the time of year.

According to Theme Park Insider Scott Gustin,  Genie+ prices will still start at $15 per person per day but will possibly increase, possibly based on crowd visits. For example, in the month of October, Disney Genie+ is liable to range from $15-$22 (+tax).

This update almost immediately follows the news that the baseline price for the in-Park service at Disneyland Resort will increase from $20 to $25.

Further details show that Disneyland will still offer the opportunity for pre-arrival Genie+ purchases, and those will apparently not be affected by the price fluctuation. Magic Key Holders will continue to receive their 20% discount regardless of the posted price for both same-day and pre-arrival Genie+ purchases.

Meanwhile, pre-arrival Genie+ purchases are no longer available at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. So, all Guests will be susceptible to price increases.

This change creates an unpredictability of the price of a service which offers Guests the chance to optimize their day as well as gain access to some Lightning Lane entrances of select attractions.

It should be noted that Disney Parks already instituted a form of price fluctuation on its a la carte Individual Lighting Lane offerings, which are contingent upon the ride’s popularity. However, Disney Genie+ offers much more than just the line-cutting opportunities once held by the complimentary FastPass system, arguably making it a more integral part of one’s day in Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disneyland Park, and Disney California Adventure.

The fixed price, regardless of season, allowed Disney Genie+ to boast a budget-friendly image. Even though it was an added cost, the consistency allowed families to budget accordingly. Now, it seems that parents won’t be able to know what price they will have to pay per person per day for this service.

There are still some details, like maximum price throughout the year, that still need to come to light. So we at Disney Fanatic will continue to update our readers on this story as more developments come to light.
