Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Fantasy, picked up Cuban migrants just north of Havana, Cuba on the 31st of December.

Whether you choose to go to a Disney park like the Walt Disney World Resort or you choose to enjoy Disney in a different way, there’s always a lot to love about the Disney experience. But sometimes, things can take a turn. Even with Disney.

In news that has certainly made waves (pun not intended), guests on a Disney Cruise Line ship reported a surprising event along with their usual magic during their Disney vacation.

Guest Reports Disney Fantasy Picks Up Cuban Migrants

As a fan and presumed Disney Cruise Line guest reported, the Disney Fantasy cruise ship picked up Cuban migrants at sea approximately 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of Havana, Cuba. Four individuals were spotted in a small, unmarked, and unpowered boat. The guest reported that the boat “had no motor.”

As reported by Cruise Hive, “The cruise ship [Disney Fantasy] immediately stopped to assist, sending out its own pilot craft and rescue personnel to bring the refugees aboard.”

As the Disney guest reported, the ship even went back to deliver the Cuban migrants to the Cuban Coast Guard. The outlet explained, “Repatriating refugees back to their country of origin is standard practice with these types of rescues.”

It continued, “When refugees are brought aboard a cruise ship, they may be taken to the next port of call in order to reach the authorities, depending on where they are found and how convenient a rendezvous may be.”

Interestingly, this doesn’t appear to be the first time this kind of incident has happened with a Disney cruise ship. One former Disney Cruise Line guest commented, explaining how something similar had happened to her back in March aboard the Disney Dream.

She shared, “This happened on my Dream cruise back in March… They only pick them up if there’s a health emergency otherwise the contact coast guard to get them.”

As of the publishing of this article, no further details have been provided about the incident.
