Disney’s Animal Kingdom is undergoing a major transformation in 2025, and one of the biggest changes is the permanent closure of It’s Tough to Be a Bug. The long-running 4D attraction, which has been a staple of the park since its opening in 1998, is officially closing on March 17, 2025. While some fans will miss it, others are eager to see what’s next for the Tree of Life Theater.

A Final Curtain Call for It’s Tough to Be a Bug
For years, It’s Tough to Be a Bug has been an unforgettable (sometimes unsettling) experience for guests. The attraction brings visitors face-to-face with the world of insects, complete with 4D effects like air blasts, water sprays, and even the sensation of bugs crawling beneath your seat.

While it’s been a unique part of Animal Kingdom, the attraction has also developed a reputation for scaring younger guests. With its unexpected jump scares and a menacing Hopper animatronic, it’s safe to say that not everyone has left the theater smiling.
Now, Disney is saying goodbye to this experience to make way for something new.
What’s Taking Its Place?
Disney has confirmed that It’s Tough to Be a Bug will be replaced with Zootopia: Better Zoogether, a 4D show based on the world of Zootopia (2016). While few details have been revealed, the experience will include characters like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde and take guests on a journey through the different biomes seen in the film.

The new attraction is set to debut later in 2025, although the exact timeline is unclear since It’s Tough to Be a Bug is closing later than originally expected.
Animal Kingdom’s Big Overhaul
The changes don’t stop at the Tree of Life. Disney is in the process of completely reimagining DinoLand U.S.A. as Tropical Americas, bringing new attractions inspired by Encanto (2021) and Indiana Jones.
Disney is replacing the DINOSAUR ride, which will be an Indiana Jones adventure, while the Encanto portion of the land could include an interactive Madrigal Casita. These updates mark one of the biggest transformations the park has seen in years, shifting its focus away from dinosaurs and toward beloved modern franchises.
A New Era for Animal Kingdom
With It’s Tough to Be a Bug closing and DinoLand U.S.A. disappearing, 2025 will be a defining year for Animal Kingdom. The park is evolving in big ways, and while some guests will miss the old favorites, the future is full of fresh adventures.

If you’re visiting Animal Kingdom next year, get ready for construction walls—but also new attractions that will breathe new life into the park.
