It is no secret among Disney Fanatics that many Pirates of the Caribbean fans want the American actor Johnny Depp to return to his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow — even though Disney seems to have moved on from Captain Jack Sparrow movies, and Johnny Depp said during the Depp vs Heard trial that he wouldn’t return in his role onscreen (not even for exorbitant amounts of money).
However, Disney seems to have found a loophole for the Jack Sparrow problem, and that is animation!
According to Giant Freakin Robot, Disney+ is planning an animated Pirates of the Caribbean series that will allow Disney (and possibly Jerry Bruckheimer, if the director is involved with this series as well as with Pirates 6) to not only keep the cash cow that is Pirates of the Caribbean going, but also to possibly recast Captain Jack Sparrow by hiring someone who can pull off an uncanny Johnny Depp impression.
Giant Freakin Robot cited a “trusted” source when sharing information about the Disney+ Pirates of the Caribbean series. According to the website, “going the animated route could potentially allow Disney to avoid the huge, heavily eyeliner-d elephant in the room” that is Johnny Depp.
Who knows? Perhaps Disney would hire one of their Disney Park face character performers to voice the pirate captain who loves rum. After all, many of them already have experience playing the part convincingly in front of Disney Guests!
Would you watch this animated Pirates of the Caribbean series, or would you rather rewatch the original films, hope for Johnny Depp’s return instead, and keep an eye out for the Margot Robbie pirate coming in Pirates of the Caribbean 6?
