Disney Monorail To Require Paid Tickets in Summer 2025

Starting in the summer of 2025, Tokyo Disney Resort will change how guests pay for rides on the iconic Disney Resort Line Monorail.

The new system will begin on July 28, 2025, when single tickets and day passes with QR codes will be introduced. These QR codes will replace the current ticketing format, allowing guests to easily scan in and out of the monorail stations. By 2026, the Monorail will exclusively operate with QR code tickets, though visitors can still use prepaid IC cards for convenience.

To help guests navigate this transition, Tokyo Disney Resort has released a YouTube video explaining how to use the new system. In the video, the resort demonstrates how Disney Park guests should scan the QR code when entering and exiting the monorail stations. This system promises to simplify the process for guests while ensuring smooth and efficient transportation around the resort.

The Disney Resort Line, which connects major areas like the Resort Gateway, Tokyo Disneyland, Bayside, and Tokyo DisneySea, operates on a short, quick loop. The Monorail’s fleet includes five vibrant C trains: Monorail Yellow, Monorail Pink, Monorail Blue, Monorail Purple, and Monorail Green. For those arriving by train, the Monorail also connects to the East Japan Railway Company’s Maihama Station, which can be accessed via the Keiyō Line from Tokyo or the Musashino Line from Fuchūhommachi.

Tokyo Disney Resort’s monorail system is operated by Maihama Resort Line Company, Ltd., a subsidiary of The Oriental Land Company, which oversees the resort’s operations.

Unlike other Disney parks such as Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, guests at Tokyo Disney Resort are required to pay for rides on the Monorail. Single-ride tickets cost ¥300 (around $2 at the time of this article’s publication), with children’s tickets priced at ¥150 (about $1). Day and multi-day passes will be available, starting at ¥700 (under $5) for adults and ¥350 (under $2.50) for children.
