REPORT: Disney’s 2025 Christmas Special Features Trump-Supporting Performers

Holiday television traditions don’t get much bigger than the Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade, which returns for its 42nd year on December 25, 2025, broadcasting simultaneously on ABC, Disney+, and Hulu. This year’s lineup features spectacular musical performances filmed across multiple Disney destinations, but two artists scheduled to appear have sparked controversy among fans due to their associations with conservative politics and Christian activism.

The beloved annual tradition launched in 1983 as a straightforward broadcast of a Christmas parade, but has transformed into a major production featuring A-list talent performing seasonal favorites against iconic Disney Park backdrops. Alfonso Ribeiro returns as host for the second consecutive year, joined by co-hosts Ginnifer Goodwin from Zootopia 2 (2025) and Maia Kealoha from the live-action Lilo & Stitch (2025).

On December 10, Disney Parks Blog unveiled the complete roster of musical acts and their performance locations:

  • Gwen Stefani – “White Christmas” from Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Resort
  • Coco Jones – “This Christmas” from Millennium Falcon at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Iam Tongi – “The Christmas Song” from Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina Hawai’i
  • Lady A – “Winter Wonderland” from World Celebration Gardens at EPCOT
  • Nicole Scherzinger – “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” from Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Resort
  • Mariah the Scientist – “Please Come Home for Christmas” from Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park
  • Bebe Rexha – “Last Christmas” from Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park

Two names immediately caught the attention of progressive Disney enthusiasts: Gwen Stefani and Nicole Scherzinger. Both have faced scrutiny in recent years regarding their political leanings and public statements about their faith.

The No Doubt frontwoman achieved massive fame through hits like “Just A Girl” and “Don’t Speak,” later establishing herself as a television personality through multiple seasons coaching on The Voice. She married country star Blake Shelton in 2021, whose support for Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election sparked public debate.

While Stefani built her reputation partly as a feminist icon in the 2000s and vocally backed Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns, her recent behavior has raised questions. She has publicly complimented conservative commentator Tucker Carlson and follows right-wing media figures, including Candace Owens, on social media platforms.

Stefani has also expressed support for what she describes as “traditional families” and partnered with Hallow, a religious application that opposes abortion rights. Though Stefani avoids claiming membership in any political party, she was raised in the Catholic faith and reportedly maintains strong Christian beliefs today.

Nicole Scherzinger’s Instagram Comment Sparks Backlash

Best known as the lead vocalist for the Pussycat Dolls, Scherzinger earned a Tony Award in 2025 for Best Lead Actress in a Musical for portraying Norma Desmond in the Broadway revival of “Sunset Boulevard.” During her celebrated run in the production, she generated significant criticism for engaging with content posted by actor and comedian Russell Brand on Instagram.

Brand shared a selfie in 2024 wearing a red cap styled after President Donald Trump’s signature “Make America Great Again” hats, though Brand’s version read “Make Jesus First Again.” Scherzinger responded in the comments: “Where do I get this hat!!!? 🙏🏽❤️”

The interaction disappointed numerous supporters, particularly within Broadway’s notably inclusive community, prompting calls for a boycott of “Sunset Boulevard.” Scherzinger subsequently issued an apology statement addressing the situation:

“I deeply apologize for the hurt caused by my recent engagement with some social media posts. When I commented on these posts, I made the mistake of not realizing that they could be easily interpreted as being politically related and I apologize to anyone who understandably reached that conclusion.

Many presumptions are being drawn, which do not reflect who I am, what I stand for, or who I voted for. Many of the marginalized communities feeling hurt and concerned by the results of the presidential election are people I care about most. I stand with them, as I always have, throughout my life and career. If you know me, you know that.

Like so many others, in times of adversity and uncertainty, I turn to my faith. I believed that the posts I engaged with were about encouraging people to choose love and faith — ‘putting Jesus first.' For me Christ embodies peace, compassion, hope, and above all — unconditional love, especially for those who may feel it the least right now. I come from a place of love, and I will always support values that bring us closer together. It's so important we come together with compassion, and love one another more now than ever.”

Can Disney Make Changes This Late?

Production for the Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade wrapped in November, with all performances already recorded and post-production likely near completion. Replacing either Stefani or Scherzinger at this stage would require significant effort and expense.

However, the real question isn’t whether Disney could make changes, but whether the company should. Do these performers’ political associations and religious expressions conflict with Disney’s values strongly enough to warrant removal from a holiday television special? Or do their talents and the completed production outweigh concerns about their controversial public statements?
