On February 17, Disney Parks released more information regarding the complete closure and transformation of Mickey’s Toontown at the Disneyland Resort.
To begin this work, Mickey’s Toontown will be closed beginning March 9, 2022, and will reopen in early 2023, alongside the new attraction, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
If you want to see Mickey’s Toontown one more time before the reimagining begins, be sure to visit between now and March 8!
Now, the word “transformation” or “reimagination” can be highly unsettling for Disney Fanatics who like their parks to stay the way they are. As previously explained, the Disneyland Park construction is set to add Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, but little else was defined.
Back in November, Disney released its plans for two new interactive areas:
At the center of CenTOONial Park will be a fountain, designed for play, which will also become a center icon for Mickey’s Toontown. As its base, water tables will invite guests to play with the water and have a sensory experience. At night, the fountain will be brought to life in a unique spectacle.
A nearby dreaming tree will be inspired by the tree a young Walt Disney would daydream under in his hometown. Sculpted tree roots will provide an opportunity for children to play, crawl and explore, and undulating topography will offer rolling hills and a place to sit and dream.

While new additions are always great, there is only so much space in the land, and one has to ask what is going to be taken away and how are things going to be changed, exactly? Disney reassured its would-be Guests by saying,
When Mickey’s Toontown reopens in 2023, it will still be home to favorite attractions such as Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, Mickey’s House and Minnie’s House! Plus, other attractions will be reimagined in new and exciting ways, including Gadget’s Go Coaster, Goofy’s House and Donald’s Boat.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is Mickey and Minnie’s first theme Park ride to be installed in a Disney Theme Park. It was first opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, and California Disney Fanatics have been waiting to get their version ever since.
