Disney is known for being family-friendly and for the masses; however, recently, fans spotted something “horrendous” in the background of a teen film that has them freaked out.
The Walt Disney Company is known for making some of the best family-friendly content out there. For years now, much of Disney’s productions have been geared toward being appropriate for families to enjoy together, with Disney producing content for different age groups.
Shows like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse were aimed at younger kids, while shows and movies like Hannah Montana, Liv and Maddie, and High School Musical were for an older audience. However, recently, fans spotted something they labeled “horrendous” in a teen Disney movie.
Prom Pact Shocks Audiences
Recently, as news.com.au reported, a scene of a cheering crowd at a high school basketball game has caught fans’ eyes, particularly for one row of people in the audience who look notably different from the other actors. This is because it’s very evident that the people in the second row are not actors at all.
Fans have spotted “digital models” that have been added into the scene during post-production, which, from all of the issues we’ve seen with respect to the WGA SAG-AFTRA strike, is presumably to save on paying real, human background extras. In fact, actors have spoken out before on how Disney has taken full-body scans of them without any explanation to work on AI models.

Fans and outlets have spoken out about this. ScreenRant shared, “A Disney+ movie, Prom Pact, with AI actors looks horrendous, and it’s exactly the problem that the striking SAG-AFTRA is trying to prevent.”
Another actor who worked as an extra on Prom Pact also added, “I worked as an extra on prom pact quite a bit, I don’t remember being asked to work on this day…that could’ve been me, but nah it’s easier to just put cg abominations there instead #SAGAFTRAStrong.”
What happens in Prom Pact?
Prom Pact is a romantic comedy Disney Channel film directed by Anya Adams; it premiered on March 30, 2023. The film stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Milo Manheim, Margaret Cho, Blake Draper, Monique Green, Arica Himmel, Jason Sakaki, David S. Jung, and Wendi McLendon-Covey.
It follows the story of Mandy Yang (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and her best friend, Ben Plunkett (Milo Manheim); the duo is surrounded by 80s-themed proposals in their senior year, while Yang remains focused on her goal of getting into Harvard.
Mandy decides to ask for a popular jock, Graham Lansing’s, help since his father is a senator and an alum of Harvard. In return, she agrees to become his tutor and learns that there’s more to life than Harvard and more to Graham than just being a jock.

Does Prom Pact Have LGBTQ Characters?
Prom Pact certainly shows a lot of background characters who identify within the LGBTQ+ community. There are a lot of characters who are obviously gay. Many boys participate in “promposals” wherein they ask their same-sex significant others to prom. The school’s guidance counselor, Ms. Chen, played by Margaret Cho, is married to another woman.
There’s also a scene where Mandy interrupts two boys making out on a couch (it’s the same scene that was controversial earlier this year as some believed it was a gay sex scene). Ultimately, it’s a movie that received generally positive reviews.
