In a move that continues the evolution of Avengers Campus at Disneyland Resort, a new permit has been filed that will permanently update the area outside Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!—a change that adds even more flavor to the Marvel-themed corner of Disney California Adventure Park.
For years, the area near the Guardians attraction housed a now-unused FastPass distribution station, rendered obsolete during the shift to Genie+ and Lightning Lane in recent years. According to Kenny the Pirate, “This new permit will convert this space into an outdoor eating area. It appears that this may offer a fun theming since a metal awning, shipping container, and electrical work will be part of this design.”
While the update may seem modest, it’s a smart use of space—particularly important for Disneyland Resort, which, unlike its Florida counterpart, doesn’t have as much land to expand. In Anaheim, every inch counts.
Before Avengers Campus came to life, Marvel fans already had a thrilling presence at Disney California Adventure. When The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror transformed into Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, fans were treated to an entirely new story filled with action, music, and randomized thrills. Opening on May 27, 2017, the ride features Rocket Raccoon orchestrating a daring escape from the Collector’s fortress—complete with cameos from Star-Lord, Gamora, and Drax.
Then, on June 4, 2021, the next chapter began. Avengers Campus officially opened, delivering a living, breathing Marvel Universe right into the park. With immersive attractions like WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure—where guests sling webs in sync with Peter Parker—and innovative dining at Pym Test Kitchen, the land became a go-to destination for heroes in training.
The company has confirmed that Avengers Campus will double in size. New experiences include the Stark Flight Lab and a cutting-edge Multiverse adventure: Avengers: Infinity Defense. This new attraction brings guests face to face with King Thanos and features the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.
This initiative is part of CEO Bob Iger’s larger strategy to “turbocharge” growth across Disney Experiences. At Walt Disney World Resort, new themed lands are being considered based on Encanto, Cars, Monsters, Inc., and the world of Disney Villains. Over in Europe, Disneyland Paris is preparing to open the gates to World of Frozen and more.
As these plans come to life, it’s clear that Avengers Campus is just getting started. The addition of an outdoor dining area near Mission: BREAKOUT! may seem like a small change, but it adds capacity and comfort in a high-traffic part of the park—enhancing the experience for every guest preparing to rescue the Guardians.
