Disneyland Makes Dramatic Change to Marvel Ride’s Schedule

Whether you’re a Disneyland or Walt Disney World Resort fan might depend in part on your home’s geographical location, but the ride offerings can also play a part in Disney fans’ preferences.

Fans of the Marvel movies called Guardians of the Galaxy (which just wrapped up the franchise series with a heartbreaking third film) who love a thrill but dislike intense nausea — and who live in California — might be big Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT enthusiasts.

Mission: Ride Before the Deadline

This ride doesn’t leave its passengers riddled with nausea like the new EPCOT roller coaster (which is called Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind) reportedly does, but it does offer some exciting thrills for Disney California Adventure Park guests.

Unfortunately, the roller coaster (which involves “intergalactic mayhem” with Rocket the raccoon, as well as “incredible special effects,” “thrilling free-fall drop sequences,” catchy tunes, and several “different storylines to experience”) has just undergone a dramatic change in its schedule.

Meet the Guardians’ New Curfew!

As of Friday, September 1, Disney California Adventure Park guests cannot ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT after 2 p.m. in the afternoon.

Since most Disney guests are nowhere near finished with their Disney theme park days by that time in the afternoon, many of them will be hankering after some Marvel “mayhem” — but this 2 p.m. curfew means business!

Is This Reason Worth It?

Disneyland is not closing this Marvel ride to be mean to its visitors; instead, the shorter operating schedule is due to a change that’s meant to actually please the crowds!

Between now and October 31, Disneyland employees will be hard at work changing this ride from a quest about Rocket the raccoon to a quest involving Groot and some Halloween monsters.

The ride’s name will even change from Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT to Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. This has happened every year since 2017, but not every Disney guest will be aware of it (especially if they have never visited this California theme park before)!

In your opinion, is the 2 p.m. closure worth it to get a Halloween version of the ride — or will you be sorely missing this ride for the next two months?
