Disney has axed one of its virtual queues.
Virtual queues have become a defining part of modern Disney vacations. Introduced to spread crowds and reduce physical waiting, they have been used for everything from blockbuster attractions to character meet-and-greets across Disney's parks.

When Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance debuted, guests needed to secure a boarding group before they could ride. The process became one of Disney's most talked-about operations, with reservations disappearing in moments on busy mornings.
That approach has gradually been rolled back. Today, Rise of the Resistance relies on standby queues and Lightning Lane access instead. Other Star Wars experiences have also shifted away from virtual reservations as Disney continues refining how guests move through its parks.
Now, another Star Wars experience has followed suit.

Disney Ends Virtual Queue for Starport
This week, Disney removed the virtual queue for Starport.
The Star Wars character location offers “an out-of-this-world Character Encounter with a famous face from across the galaxy” inside Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris. Darth Vader is typically the featured character. Instead of reserving a place through the Disneyland Paris app, guests can now simply join a standby queue.
The change continues a pattern for Starport. Disney removed the virtual queue last November before bringing it back in January. Prior to that, the experience had also used virtual access from June 2025.

Notably, other popular character experiences have not changed. Meet Mickey Mouse, Princess Pavilion, Hero Training Center, Rencontre Royale with Anna & Elsa, and Woody from Toy Story all continue to require virtual queues through the Disneyland Paris app.
Disney Continues Rethinking Virtual Queues
The latest update reflects Disney's broader move away from virtual queues for Star Wars.
While the system was once essential for Rise of the Resistance, it is no longer used for the attraction. Guests instead choose between waiting in standby or purchasing Lightning Lane access where available.
Disneyland also expanded Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge earlier this year by introducing original trilogy characters, including Darth Vader, Leia Organa, and Han Solo, moving beyond the land's original sequel-era focus.

Virtual queues remain one of Disney's most divisive planning tools.
Fans have praised them for reducing time spent standing in line, but others argue they make vacations more complicated by requiring guests to watch the app throughout the day.
That frustration was especially apparent at Walt Disney World.
When Rise of the Resistance, TRON Lightcycle / Run, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind relied on boarding groups, reservations often disappeared within seconds of opening.
Many set alarms for 7 a.m. to join the virtual queue for attractions, including Tiana's Bayou Adventure. Missing a release could mean missing the experience altogether or paying for Lightning Lane access if it remained available.
What do you think of Disney's virtual queues?
