Disney Announces Disappointing Postponement as Hurricane Idalia Approaches

Hurricane Idalia continues to make its inexorable way toward Central Florida via the Gulf of Mexico — and is therefore also making its way toward Walt Disney World Resort.

Tropical storm Idalia is expected to make landfall as a Category Three Hurricane tomorrow, and Disney is already making evacuation preparations as well as issuing warnings to Disney guests at resorts like Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

Now, tropical storm Idalia and soon-to-be Hurricane Idalia has caused Disney to make yet another significant announcement — and unfortunately, this announcement involves rescheduling a very highly-anticipated reveal!

Mysterious New Treasures

Sadly, Disney has had to postpone the newest Disney Cruise Line cruise ship reveal. The mysterious new ship, the Disney Treasure, was meant to join the Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and Disney Wish in the cruise ship fleet.

However, “due to the approaching hurricane, the grand virtual reveal of the #DisneyTreasure has been moved to Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. ET.”

Some Disney Fanatics may find themselves doing a double-take upon reading that a “virtual reveal” is being rescheduled to September 5, since obviously anything virtual should not be affected by something like a hurricane.

However, Disney may be trying to avoid losing a large portion of its audience due to temporary evacuations caused by Hurricane Idalia.

Why Postpone Something Virtual?

Disney may also be anticipating a loss of Internet or power outages, which could cause a variety of problems with a virtual event.

The virtual unveiling of the Disney Treasure cruise ship was meant to take place in the form of a video on the Disney Parks Blog entitled “Unlocking the Disney Treasure: Adventure Awaits Onboard Disney’s Newest Ship.”

This video will reportedly “debut never-before-released details about the Disney Treasure, showcasing the world-class dining, immersive family entertainment and unique spaces coming to the sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.”
