The ‘Disney Wish’ Heads Out to Sea

If you’re a Walt Disney fan who loves to enjoy a Walt Disney vacation with Disney Cruise Line, then you’ve probably already been keeping a close eye on the progress being made on the Disney Wish, which is the newest cruise ship addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet — and now the Disney Wish is officially on its way to Florida!

Since safety is paramount on a cruise ship, the Disney Wish will be undergoing a lot more testing in the form of sea trials (i.e. tests on the open ocean to ensure that the cruise ship is actually seaworthy). But once it’s passed those tests, it can make its way on an inaugural voyage to Port Canaveral, Florida!

This is the first time that a Disney Cruise Line cruise ship has embarked on this particular journey in over ten years! The Disney Wish will be moving through the Ems River in Papenberg Germany (leaving the Meyer Werft shipyard where it was constructed) and making slow progress along the 20 mile journey with some “tugboat-assisted conveyance” at about three to five miles per hour.

The Disney Wish has a length of 1,119 feet and a width of 128 feet. Its Ems river journey will initially take the cruise ship to Eemshaven in the Netherlands, and it will then begin sea trials within the North Sea. Once the Disney cruise ship has passed all of the required tests in the sea trials, it will be passed on to the Disney Cruise Line to begin its “transatlantic sailing” voyage to Port Canaveral in June (presuming that it’s passed all of the sea trials by then!).

Bookings are already being made for the first Disney Wish cruise vacations, especially since this new cruise ship will have a whole lot of special interactive restaurants and activities that Disney Guests have never seen before. Marvel, Star Wars, and Disney princess fans will definitely want to experience the interactive adventures on this ship (and every Disney fan will be interested in this unique adventure that allows interactions with Disney characters and Disney stories like never before, as well as rooms like the Disney Wish Tower Suite)!

The new “half water coaster, half dark ride” called the AquaMouse and the new stage performances will also be appealing to Guests!

The Disney Wish should be beginning its cruises on July 14 in the form of “short trial voyages” with cast members and members of the media. After that, it will be ‘bon voyage’ for everyone!
