“The Most Magical Ship Yet”: An Exclusive Look at the Disney Wish

If you’re a veteran Disney Cruise Line fan who loves Disney cruises, Disney ships, and interactive Disney experiences, then you’re in luck today! Good Morning America has shared a special look at the newest Disney cruise ship, the Disney Wish, while the extravagant ship is still under construction in the German Meyer Werft shipyard!

The Disney Wish cruise ship is apparently “one of the most remarkable vessels ever built”, according to Good Morning America’s Janai Norman, who visited the unfinished Disney cruise ship in person in Germany.

It’s taken about four years to build this new Disney cruise ship, and the Disney Wish cruise ship weighs 144,000 gross tons.

Janai Norman met with several Disney Cast Members or Imagineers (as well as Captain Minnie Mouse and Captain Mickey Mouse) while visiting and touring the unfinished Disney Cruise Line ship, including Walt Disney Imagineeer Sachi Handke, the Disney Wish Show Coordinator. “Whether you’re a fan of Marvel, or Star Wars, or Disney, or Pixar, there’s something for you,” Walt Disney Imagineeer Sachi said when asked about the Disney Wish’s special qualities.

One highlight of any Disney cruise ship is its grand entrance or atrium, and the Disney Wish will have a Grand Hall that is three stories high and features lots of Disney princess glamour focusing on Cinderella! “You’re gonna feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale castle”, Walt Disney Imagineeer Sachi told Good Morning America and Janai Norman. Engaged Disney Guests will also have the option to book Disney Fairy Tale Weddings in this location! 

Janai Norman and Walt Disney Imagineeer Sachi also spoke about Arendelle: a Frozen Dining Adventure, which is a “theater in the round” restaurant with Frozen characters that will allow Guests to “eat while watching a show, completely immersed in the story”. Oaken from Frozen will be hosting!

The Star Wars hyperspace lounge is an “elevated spaceship” experience that Star Wars fans or Space 220 fans will love, because “views of space” are included too!

The “Imagineer in charge” on board, Walt Disney Imagineeer Philip Gennotte  (who is a Portfolio Project Management Executive for Walt Disney Imagineering Germany) said that the Disney Wish’s unique quality is that “it’s all about entertainment. It’s in every space almost on the ship. Whether it’s in the staterooms or in the restaurants, we have thought of so many things for our Guests”.

He cited Worlds of Marvel as a favorite feature on the cruise ship, and interior designer Claire Weiss (who is the Principal Designer and Creative Director for Walt Disney Imagineering Germany) said that the effect created by the “800 miles of fiber optic lights” involved in the pixie dust on the columns of the cruise ship’s rooms and the ice magic above cruise Guests in Arendelle are a highlight among all of “the fun Disney surprises that bring this place to life”.

With a gorgeous Grand Hall worthy of Cinderella, interactive Marvel and Frozen restaurants, luxurious Disney princess staterooms like the Disney Wish tower suite, activities like the Disney Uncharted Adventure, and delicious treats on board, it’s no wonder that anticipation for the Disney Wish’s unveiling is high amongst Disney Cruise Line Guests!
