Disney World Erases Family-Friendly Ride Overnight

Big changes are underway at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and one longtime attraction is now gone for good. Overnight, crews demolished TriceraTop Spin, a staple of DinoLand U.S.A. since 2002, as Walt Disney World Resort prepares for the land’s complete transformation into a new Tropical Americas area.

Extinction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

DinoLand U.S.A. is gradually being dismantled to make way for Pueblo Esperanza, a brand-new land including all-new Encanto (2021) attractions and an Indiana Jones retheme of DINOSAUR.

On January 12, 2025, the land saw multiple closures, including Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama (including the Fossil Fun Games), and the TriceraTop Spin ride. Construction walls quickly popped up, and over the last month, Disney Fanatic has reported on the steady progress of demolition in the area.

Throughout the last month’s construction, the structure of TriceraTop Spin remained standing. But when Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park opened on Tuesday, February 25, guests noticed something shocking—the spinner ride had vanished overnight.

Photos from @Laughing_place on X (formerly Twitter) show that TriceraTop Spin has been completely removed from the skyline of DinoLand U.S.A. in what appears to have been a swift overnight demolition:

Overnight, TriceraTop Spin has been completely removed from the skyline of DinoLand USA at #DisneysAnimalKingdom.

For over 22 years, TriceraTop Spin served as Animal Kingdom’s alternative to Dumbo the Flying Elephant and The Magic Carpets of Aladdin: a classic spinning attraction with no height requirement. Its removal means fewer options for younger guests at Animal Kingdom, which now has just six operational rides:

  • Wildlife Express Train
  • Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
  • Avatar Flight of Passage
  • Na’vi River Journey
  • DINOSAUR
  • Kilimanjaro Safaris

(Kali River Rapids is temporarily closed for refurbishment until March 2025.)

With TriceraTop Spin gone, only a few remnants of DinoLand U.S.A. remain. Guests can still see the large dinosaur statue at the former Dino-Rama entrance, a few billboards, and the top of Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures peeking over the construction walls.

Hurry to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park for one last blast from the past. DINOSAUR, The Boneyard, and select Quick Service dining locations will continue operating through 2025 before closing permanently in 2026.
