Disney World Mobile Order Glitch Creates New Problem for Magic Kingdom Guests

Walt Disney World guests have become used to doing a lot of their vacation planning from their phones. But when one of those digital tools doesn't work as expected, even a small problem can quickly interfere with plans inside the parks.

That appears to be happening during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

A strange Mobile Order issue has surfaced at Magic Kingdom, with food reportedly being prepared before guests' selected arrival windows. In some cases, the orders were ready before guests even told Disney they had arrived at the restaurant.

For visitors trying to squeeze everything possible out of a limited-time Halloween event, that's more disruptive than it may initially sound.

Mobile Order Doesn't Go According to Plan

Mobile Order is designed to save guests time by letting them purchase food through the My Disney Experience app rather than waiting to order at a restaurant.

Guests typically choose an available arrival window, place their order and continue enjoying the park. When the selected time approaches and they reach the restaurant, they can tell Disney through the app that they've arrived. The app then sends another notification when the order is ready.

That gives guests the ability to work meals around attractions, entertainment and other plans.

However, Disney Food Blog encountered something unusual while attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

The outlet placed a Mobile Order as usual but received a notification that the food was ready before its scheduled pickup window had even started. The guests hadn't yet told the app they were at the restaurant.

Even stranger, it reportedly happened twice during the same party.

These weren't simply incorrect notifications, either. The food really had been prepared ahead of schedule.

The Timing Could Cause Problems for Halloween Party Guests

Getting food early might not sound like a major Disney World problem.

During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, though, timing matters.

The separately ticketed event runs on select nights at Magic Kingdom through October 31 and features special entertainment, Halloween offerings and event-exclusive food and drinks.

Guests have a limited amount of time to experience everything.

Someone might deliberately schedule dinner around a show, character experience or another part of the evening. If that guest suddenly receives a notification saying dinner is already waiting across Magic Kingdom, the plan becomes more complicated.

They can leave what they're doing and retrieve the food early, or they can stick to the original schedule and risk allowing the meal to sit longer than intended.

Neither choice is what guests expect after selecting a specific arrival window.

It also removes one of Mobile Order's biggest advantages: predictability.

It Isn't Clear How Widespread the Issue Is

At this point, guests shouldn't assume every Mobile Order placed during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will have the same problem.

Disney Food Blog said it wasn't clear whether the issue was limited to the party it attended or whether it could continue at other parties.

Still, having the same thing happen twice during one visit makes it something upcoming guests may want to watch.

For now, visitors using Mobile Order during the Halloween event should keep an eye on their phones after placing an order, even if their selected arrival window is still some time away.

Guests may also want to think about where they'll be in Magic Kingdom before choosing a pickup time. Scheduling food around something that can't easily be interrupted could become frustrating if an order unexpectedly gets prepared early.

Disney's App Has Become a Major Part of a Disney World Vacation

The situation shows just how important My Disney Experience has become at Walt Disney World.

Guests use their phones throughout the day to manage different parts of their trips, and Mobile Order can be particularly useful in a crowded theme park.

When everything works correctly, guests can spend less time worrying about meals and more time enjoying Magic Kingdom.

During a special event, that convenience becomes even more valuable.

That's why an issue that seems relatively small can become frustrating. Guests are choosing their pickup windows based on the assumption that Disney will follow those times.

For now, there's no indication in the supplied report that Disney has explained why the orders were prepared early.

It could prove to be an isolated problem. But with more Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party nights ahead, guests relying on Mobile Order may want to watch their notifications closely.

At Walt Disney World, apparently even dinner can decide to show up ahead of schedule.
