After a brief closure due to a cold front sweeping through Central Florida, Walt Disney World Resort’s Blizzard Beach is officially back open. The water park, which had shut down for two days, resumed operations on Saturday, February 22, 2025, welcoming guests to enjoy attractions like Summit Plummet, Tike’s Peak, Toboggan Racers, and Melt-Away Bay.

While the return of Blizzard Beach signals some relief for visitors, weather-related closures continue to impact the region’s theme park offerings. Universal Orlando Resort’s Volcano Bay, which had already been closed on February 18, 19, 20, and 21 due to unseasonably chilly temperatures, will remain open for the weekend before shutting down again on February 24 and 25 as part of Universal’s seasonal operating schedule.
The cold snap serves as a reminder that even Florida’s famed sunshine isn’t always guaranteed. Last year, an arctic blast led to temporary shutdowns at both Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Universal’s Volcano Bay, and 2025 is proving to be no exception. During the recent closure period, temperatures in the region saw highs in the mid-60s and lows dipping into the low 40s, making it less than ideal for water park fun.

With spring break approaching, Orlando’s theme parks are preparing for a surge of visitors. Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort are both expected to reach capacity, bringing long lines, packed attractions, and an atmosphere charged with energy as tourists from across the globe arrive for the season.
Meanwhile, both Disney and Universal continue to push forward with major expansion plans. Universal is working at full speed on Epic Universe, a massive new theme park set to change the game for immersive attractions. Over at Disney, exciting developments are also in the works, including a Cars-themed area near Magic Kingdom’s upcoming Villains land, a Tropical Americas expansion for Animal Kingdom, and a brand-new Monsters, Inc. experience at Hollywood Studios.
