Disney World Taking Down 50th Anniversary Decorations

Disney World 50th Anniversary End

After a lackluster performance, the Walt Disney World Resort is finally starting to put away its 50th Anniversary Celebration decorations.

Along with the termination of merchandise, special food and beverage options, and fireworks performances like Magic Kingdom’s “Disney Enchantment” and EPCOT’s “Harmonious”–all of which received mixed reviews at best–, we now have confirmation that several of the most iconic aspects of the Anniversary is going away as well.

According to Theme Park Insider Ashley Carter, “Disney World will start taking down the 50th anniversary celebration decor this weekend, including the 50th embellishments on Cinderella Castle, which will be removed in phases.”

Some elements will reportedly stick around, though, including the dazzling light show on EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth and the “Fab 50” character statues. But it seems like the “nightly light displays” will be sticking around longer, most likely being implemented in the Disney100 Celebration plans that will soon arrive at Disney World’s second-oldest Park.

The pinkifying transformation of Cinderella Castle, like every part of the 50th Anniversary, was met with a lot of commentaries from Guests who both loved and hated Walt Disney Imagineering’s attempts to mimic the color scheme of the original Disney Castle, Sleeping Beauty Castle at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.

While design plans have not been released yet, Cinderella Castle will most likely return to its traditional white and blue design, still viewable on its sister Castle at Tokyo Disney Resort (can you tell the difference between the two?).

After a rough beginning amid the Covid lockdowns, the Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration officially ended on Friday, March 31, 2023. Here’s to another 50 more years at The Most Magical Place On Earth.

We at Disney Fanatic will continue to update our readers on Disney Parks news and stories as more developments come to light.
