If you’ve ever watched The West Wing, you know that the fictional President of the United States, Jed Bartlett, is from New Hampshire. And if you learned nothing from that show, you know New Hampshire is the home to retail politics. You must shake every hand and kiss every baby in the state to win an election there. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis probably wasn’t a huge West Wing fan.
Before announcing his run for the Republican nomination for President, Governor DeSantis was leading the field in the Granite State. But after a series of blunders, he has fallen behind former President Donald Trump in recent polling.
The Florida Governor made the mistake of scheduling an event at the same time as one hosted by New Hampshire’s largest group of Republican Women. The slight did not go unnoticed.
While DeSantis is flailing away in New England, his Florida nemesis is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. Newsweek recently released a poll showing that more than 50 percent of those surveyed had a “favorable” or “very favorable” view of the Walt Disney Company.
Disney also saw an increase in online activity during the last month. The Disney Company had a boost on Instagram, where Disney gained 278,550 followers in the past 30 days. Disney’s official Instagram account now has 37,975,982 followers; Disney gained 44,742 new Twitter followers in the 30 days up to June 21, bringing its total to almost 10.3 million,
DeSantis would always struggle with New Hampshire voters who are less socially conservative than Iowa and South Carolina. The Super PAC supporting the DeSantis Campaign has pulled its ads from New Hampshire as it reassesses the situation. Real Clear Politics has Donald Trump up by 27 in New Hampshire, a far cry from earlier this year when Gov Ron DeSantis was winning.
As for Disney, Walt Disney World is thriving in Central Florida, almost despite DeSantis’s efforts. It just shows that you don’t mess with a famous Mouse.
