Dwayne Johnson Called Out For “Embarrassing” Post About Maui Wildfires

One of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood at the moment is Dwayne Johnson, also known as “The Rock”. Johnson started out as a professional wrestler, and quickly gained a massive following. He broke into the acting business in the early 2000s, and his career quickly took off. He has starred in a number of hit films, including The Mummy Returns, Hercules, San Andreas, Black Adam, and several Fast and Furious films. Johnson has also worked for Disney, starring in Moana and Jungle Cruise.

As many people know, Johnson is deeply connected to his Hawaiian roots, which are on his mother’s side. It’s one of the reasons that he was so excited to play the demigod Maui in Moana. He also flew to Hawaii to announce that Disney was working on a live-action Moana film, and he would be returning to reprise the role of Maui.

Recently, the island of Maui experienced absolutely devastating wildfires. The fires spread quickly, burning more than 17,000 acres and killing 115 people. 385 people are still declared missing. The town of Lahaina was completely destroyed, and residents have only recently returned to try to rebuild their lives from the rubble that is left behind.

Many people have taken out their wallets and donated to many charities to help the people of Maui and Lahaina. However, they were not happy with Johnson when he posted a video of himself with Oprah Winfrey — who has a mansion on the island.

Several days ago, Winfrey and Johnson teamed up for a video, asking fans to donate to the People’s Fund of Maui, a charity they created. They said that the number one thing that the residents needed was money. They also shared a link for those who wanted to donate to the victims of the Maui wildfires and said that they had launched the charity by pitching in $10 million.

We’re honored to announce the People’s Fund of Maui, a fund putting money directly in the pockets of those who were affected by the recent wildfires.

As we have seen firsthand, the impacts of these wildfires have been devastating, and we’re here to ensure with 100% guarantee that your donations will go directly into the hands of Lahaina residents.

Every adult resident who lives in the affected area and was displaced by the wildfires in Lahaina and Kula is eligible to receive $1200 per month to help them through this period of recovery. All you have to do is go to PeoplesFundofMaui.org to apply.

We are honored to start this campaign with $10 million dollars and ask for your help in donating to those who have lost their homes. We thank you in advance for your contribution.

The backlash to the post was swift and unrelenting.

Johnson is worth an estimated $800 million, while Winfrey is reportedly worth $2.5 billion. Fans were disgusted that two people who were worth so much money were asking those less fortunate to donate money.

With inflation on the rise, homes and apartments becoming more and more expensive, and wages not being enough to cover the bills, most people don’t have any extra money to spend.

Girl you got some nerve asking us working class people who can barely afford to put food on the table for our families to donate.. why don’t you ask your millionaire/billionaire buddies to help.

Many pointed out that Johnson and Winfrey could take care of all the Maui wildfire victims without even making a dent in their combined bank accounts.

Math ain’t mathing with this one. You guy’s literally have so much money…. You can donate it and make it back within a year….

Others pointed out how lucky Winfrey was. She owns more than 2,000 acres on the beautiful island and has a mansion. They called on her to donate more and help out the displaced Maui residents in her area.

You’ve got to be kidding. You’re worth $2 billion. Why don’t you give back to YOUR community? Funny how your house didn’t burn down.

For years, native Hawaiians have voiced their frustration at people like Winfrey and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg venturing to the Hawaiian islands and purchasing homes and land. Celebrities are buying up so much of the area that it is forcing native Hawaiians out of the areas their families have lived in for decades. Native Hawaiians are becoming one of the fastest-growing groups of homeless people on the islands.
