Elon Musk Could Help “Unfairly Punished” Actor Sue the Walt Disney Company

A recent tweet from X overseer Elon Musk has raised questions about whether the controversial leader will take on Disney in a lawsuit.

For the last few months, many have taken issue with the Walt Disney Company for various reasons, from the company allegedly becoming increasingly “woke” (think casting Halle Bailey in The Little Mermaid) to Disney CEO Bob Iger putting his foot in his mouth when it comes to his comments about the SAG-AFTRA strike.

The Mandalorian Actor Gina Carano Fired

This story, however, goes begins with an event that occurred many, many months ago. During the pandemic, a former actress on The MandalorianGina Carano, who played Cara Dune—was fired from the show after she made comments that compared taking a stance against getting the vaccine during the pandemic to being Jewish in Nazi Germany.

The actress received a lot of backlash for her comments and was canceled by fans and the internet at large for her views. She is one of many actresses and employees who have reported repercussions for opinions expressed online, particularly on X (formerly called Twitter).

Elon Musk, the man who oversees the social media platform, X, tweeted on August 5 that X would fund the legal bill for any person who was “unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform.”

Musk also specified that there was no limit to what they would do to support the legal fees for these individuals, and the thread was flooded with both people who shared their stories of unfair termination as well as though who mocked the idea.

Gina Carano Calls Out Disney

In the midst of this, Gina Carano also responded to Musk’s tweet, sharing a simple “I think I qualify.”

While Elon Musk has not yet responded to Carano’s case in particular, if he chooses to help Gina Carano among the thousands of commenters who shared their experiences of unfair termination, he would take on the Walt Disney Company in a legal fight.

This would be particularly noteworthy as Musk has stated before that Disney is a major advertiser on X, and Musk even expressed gratitude toward the company for its actions.

It’s unclear if Musk will choose to take on the House of Mouse in this battle, though he promised to help anyone who has received this treatment. Carano is certainly one of the most high-profile cases of an individual losing their job due to their views; it remains to be seen whether Musk will choose to step into the limelight with this case or let it be for another “safer” bet.
