EPCOT Absorbs Growing Attendance Across Walt Disney World

Spring at Disney World usually means one thing: EPCOT shines. The Flower & Garden Festival rolls in, the park fills with colorful topiaries, and guests happily spend hours grazing around World Showcase.

But this year, EPCOT’s crowd surge isn’t just seasonal. It’s strategic.

Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios are both navigating major shifts. Dinoland is closed at Animal Kingdom, and Planet Watch is also now closed. That reduces the park’s overall footprint and redistributes crowds into fewer attractions. When you remove smaller rides and quieter corners, wait times rise faster at the remaining headliners.

Some guests respond by shortening their Animal Kingdom day entirely.

Meanwhile, Hollywood Studios is in the middle of building toward its future. A Monsters, Inc. land is on the horizon, and The Magic of Disney Animation is making a comeback. But construction phases rarely feel seamless. Pathways narrow. Traffic bottlenecks. The park — which already has limited space — can start to feel packed quickly, especially when rides like Slinky Dog Dash and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run are pulling long waits.

So what do guests do when one park feels too tight and another feels reduced?

They look for breathing room.

EPCOT offers that — at least in theory. The World Showcase lagoon provides wide open views. Festival booths create movement. There’s space to wander. That perception alone makes EPCOT attractive when other parks feel congested.

But perception doesn’t always match reality.

As more visitors shift their plans, EPCOT’s headliners absorb the pressure. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind remains one of the most in-demand attractions at Walt Disney World. Frozen Ever After routinely climbs into extended waits. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure fills quickly. And with Lightning Lane priorities centered around those same rides, standby lines swell even more.

Add in park hopping patterns — especially with Animal Kingdom’s earlier closing hours — and EPCOT becomes the natural evening destination. Festival snacks plus Luminous: The Symphony of Us? That’s an easy sell.

The bigger picture is this: EPCOT isn’t just hosting Flower & Garden. It’s acting as a stabilizer for a resort in motion.

When two parks are shifting their identities, guests gravitate toward the one that feels most complete. For now, that’s EPCOT.

If you’re visiting this spring, plan accordingly. Rope drop helps. Late evenings may offer slight relief. And building flexibility into your schedule could make all the difference.

Because this year, EPCOT isn’t just blooming — it’s carrying the weight.
