On April 4, Walt Disney World Resort will finally see the opening of its brand-new roller coaster that has been five years in the making. TRON Lightcycle/Run was first announced for the Magic Kingdom back in 2017, with the plan being for it to be open by the time Walt Disney World celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020. Sadly, as we all know, that didn’t happen. The project fell way behind – in part due to COVID — and it took nearly six years for the project to be completed. In fact, TRON’s construction time became a running joke amongst Disney fans who grew tired of waiting.
Finally, back in January, Disney shared that TRON would finally be opening in April, with Cast member and Annual Passholder previews coming in February and March. However, when previews finally happened, there was a general consensus amongst riders. One — TRON was a fantastic theme park ride. Two — the ride is incredibly restrictive, and many people could not fit on it because of their calf size. Disney began catching a lot of flack for making a ride that many could not fit on, considering the theme parks had always been known for their size inclusivity.
Fans were split on the inclusivity, with some people telling those who might struggle to fit to lose weight, which is a suggestion that won’t really work when it comes to calf size. Others were upset that Disney didn’t seem to think about the size difference between Asian Guests and American Guests, since TRON has been open in Shanghai Disney since 2016.
And now, people are calling out one independent shop for trying to capitalize on the TRON ride vehicle controversy.
Twitter user Kristen (@fantasmicluvr) shared a picture of a shirt that reads “TRAINING TO FIT ON TRON LIGHTCYCLE/RUN”.

Many who saw the shirt were disgusted, especially since not being able to fit on the new attraction is a very embarrassing situation for the Guest who can’t fit. They asked Kristen what the name of the store was, so they could call them out, but she said that she was not sharing, so she would not get in any sort of legal trouble.

Others called the shop out for trying to make a profit off of body-shaming, as many of the people who will buy the shirt most likely won’t have any trouble fitting on it.
What good is body shaming if it’s not also profitable?

While many were upset by the shirt, others didn’t see the problem, especially since some have said they are working to lose weight before they try to fit on the attraction.
What’s offensive about this? Lots of people publicly state they diet/train/lose weight and their motivation is to fit on rides among other things.

TRON Lightcycle/Run will officially open to all Magic Kingdom Guests on April 4, with only a virtual queue being available. Guests can purchase individual Lightning Lane access as well. For those who are worried about fitting on the attraction, there are modified seats available in the back of some of the trains, so more Guests have the chance to enter the grid. A separate line is available for those seats.
