Disney Fans Get Into Intense Debate About Bob Chapek’s Exit

The news of now-former Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s exit is sweeping the Disney community. While the news comes as a surprise announcement, Disney adults have already taken to the internet to debate this development.

It’s well-known among the Disney community that former CEO Bob Chapek was incredibly controversial. Chapek’s tenure saw many unpopular decisions the Walt Disney Company has made in the recent past, including myriad price rises, the reported decrease in the quality of the Disney Park experience; and while this is not on the Company itself, during Chapek’s tenure, there was also increased coverage of bad behavior of Disney Guests at the Disney Theme Parks.

However, while this news has swept the community, many fans are already discussing the current situation that the Walt Disney Company finds itself in and are sharing their thoughts on Chapek’s exit and the return of the more popular Bob Iger as the Chief Executive Officer of Disney.

u/pops992 took to Reddit to begin the debate by sharing the email Bob Iger sent to employees on the announcement. Fans immediately jumped on the thread to share their suspicion that there was more going on behind the scenes.

“This is very interesting turn of events. I think we all can agree that the direction of the parks under Chapek was not trending in the right direction but clearly there is more going on here.

I dont expect Iger to come in a remove or fix the stupid things we dont like but it’s a very curious change.”

However, fellow fans were less sympathetic to the former CEO. u/RhodyChief, for example, commented, “All Chapek knew how to do was cut costs to save money, which is why they promoted him. Many (myself included) said this was short-sighted and would be regretted. That didn’t take long at all. Chapek has no clue how to be the face of a company like Disney and it showed incredibly fast. The fact that Iger had to come back is an even bigger indicator of that.”

Many fans even speculated that Bob Chapek did “exactly what he was supposed to do.” They debated the possibility that Bob Chapek was always supposed to come in and make the unpopular decisions needed to get the Company through the pandemic, and that Bob Iger now gets to return without any of the “dirt on his hands.”

Many fans were skeptical of this considering the impact this kind of situation can have on Chapek’s career. But fans argued for Bob “Paycheck’s” track record insisting he likely got a big payday out of the situation.

Fans also pointed out that Bob Iger previously stated that the appointment of Bob Chapek as the CEO of Disney was one of his biggest mistakes. While Iger has made an official statement on return, so far, Chapek has stayed quiet on his exit. Disney has also made no further statement on the announcement.
