Fans Mock Dwayne Johnson for ‘Embarrassing’ Behavior

Dwayne Johnson, the actor and former pro-wrestler known as “the Rock,” is usually a national treasure in Disney audiences’ minds. After all, the wrestler has (like fellow former pro wrestler Dave Bautista) transitioned into film with surprising success. Dwayne Johnson’s comedic chops, good looks, and self-deprecating style have made him a perennial charmer — but recently, fans have turned on the genial actor.

Dwayne Johnson is about to join the DC Universe as the superhero Black Adam in an upcoming film, and he has been vocal about his enthusiasm for the project on social media. Since 2022 has already seen plenty of hit Marvel movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder, the Jungle Cruise actor has some large shoes to fill.

But Dwayne Johnson seems unperturbed by the pressure, and has apparently made up his own slogan for his Black Adam character. “The hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE has changed,” Johnson wrote recently on Instagram in the post shown below. “Rage. ‘Your magic is weak'”. Johnson can be seen lifting weights, wearing a caped shirt that seems to reference his character Black Adam’s hooded outfit.

The Jumanji actor and Moana voice actor obviously meant for this post to be a promotional one, since the movie is coming in October, but fans have found this particular social media post to be “embarrassing” and laughable.

“Lol this is so embarrassing,” one Twitter user wrote, sharing an image from the post.

Other fans, such as the Twitter user who wrote the Tweet shown below, thought that Johnson was acting too much like a WWE wrestler. “It’s so funny that The Rock just see [sic] DC like it’s pro wrestling and he’s booking himself top of the card,” the user Tweeted.

Another fan pointed out that the slogan Johnson is mentioning is not actually a movie slogan; the fan joked that it “kind of feels like this was something he kept saying at a pitch meeting and everyone gave in.”

Dwayne Johnson may have absorbed a lot of WWE influences, since his WWE wrestling is the career that made him famous before his switch to acting — and since the actor clearly still works hard to stay in phenomenal physical shape.

However, do you think that the actor’s style (and its wrestler tendencies) is in poor taste or “embarrassing,” or do you think that it is simply part of the signature persona that makes the Rock ‘the Rock’?

Furthermore, do you think that Johnson’s wrestling days will be an asset in his performance as Black Adam, and are you excited for the new addition to the DC Universe?
