It’s been only a few months of having DeSantis’s hand-picked board at the helm of the Central Florida Tourism District, and some are already over and done with them—so much so that one Florida lawmaker is soon going to formally propose to bring Disney back and put an end to DeSantis’s Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board.
The battle that Disney has been embroiled in with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is legendary at this point. The behemoth took Governor DeSantis head-on when seemingly punished Disney for speaking out during former Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s tenure about the “Don’t Say Gay” bill (known officially as the Parental Rights in Education Act).
The back and forth escalated enough that it eventually resulted in the Florida Governor disbanding the Reedy Creek Improvement District board and replacing it with his own. However, now, it appears some Floridians are simply done with the board.

Florida Lawmaker Plans to Introduce Bill to Terminate CFTOD
State Sen. Linda Stewart (D) plans to propose a bill that, if passed, would terminate the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District and reinstate the former Reedy Creek Improvement District. Stewart plans to discuss this bill on Wednesday after the Orange County delegation meeting.
The bill plans to completely remove all traces of the CFTOD and its board and reinstate the Reedy Creek Improvement District and the Reedy Creek board as it existed on February 26, 2023. Consequently, the bill also proposes to terminate all the offices of the board of supervisors of DeSantis’s specially hand-picked board.

What has the CFTOD Board Done for Disney World?
While many were incredibly disappointed to hear the news about the dissolving of the Reedy Creek board, there were a fair few Disney employees who were initially optimistic about the impact the new Central Florida Tourism Oversight District and its board of supervisors could have on Disney World.
In particular, the Reedy Creek firefighters initially outright expressed their support for the new board, even going so far as to explain that the board seemed to be more aligned with supporting them.
On the other hand, many small business owners constantly took the board to task as many of the changes that the CFTOD board wanted to make would adversely impact their ability to conduct business in a profitable manner in the district.
The reality, though, is that most of what DeSantis’ board has done has left more people frustrated than not. For example, the board announced the stripping of the Disney perks afforded to employees, which rankled many. The same firefighters who had once defended the new board spoke out about the positives of these perks.
As shared on MyNews13, the full bill details some protections for the district if the bill does come to pass between the dissolution of Gov. DeSantis’ board and the (re-)appointment of the new board. If this does pass, there could be massive change and upheaval on the horizon for Disney once again, although this change might be one to which they’re more amenable.
