Parents were quite thoroughly fed up with their children’s high school when the institution required permission slips for a Disney movie.

In Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s Florida, it seems that schools now mandate permission slips for teenagers to watch even the most socially acceptable, safe movies: Disney classics.

High School Requires Permission Slips to Watch Tangled

As WFTV 9 reported, parents in Orange County were asked to sign off on their children—high school sophomores—watching Disney’s Tangled in school.

To celebrate the spirit of Valentine’s Day, students from Boone High School organized a fun rom-com night on the premises and chose to watch the Disney movie Tangled.

However, unlike in other circumstances when students might have just been able to enjoy this school-sponsored activity, kids needed their parents’ permission to do so.

“I had to sign a permission slip for my child who could drive himself to see it in a movie theater,” said one parent, Judi Hayes.

This development comes as part of DeSantis’s “Don’t Say Gay,” AKA the Parental Rights in Education law. Parental Rights in Education stipulates that Florida parents must sign a permission slip ahead of any school-sponsored activity their student participates in…including watching a Disney movie in class.

“It seems like it’s just it’s out of control. It’s every single activity. And it’s burdensome on the staff because they have to chase down permission slips, the club’s sponsors are getting frustrated and giving up because it’s too much work,” Hayes added.

One of the solutions posited to parents needing to sign off on every small thing students take part in is the suggestion that parents sign off on one permission slip at the beginning of the year that covers the year’s events. However, we are yet to see if this will be implemented.

  1. Every sane person already knows that DeSantis is a complete lunatic; and is out to punish Disney for not proclaiming him King and bowing down.

  2. Well, the minute the school does something WITHOUT, a permission slip, some self righteous parent is going to whine about it, and try to get someone fired.
