Being a Disney Channel star isn’t the easiest job in the world. While it appears glamorous on the surface, it’s a strenuous ask and has left more than one former Disney star with reportedly weighty baggage. One of the key characteristics of working with Disney is how strict they are about the image of their stars. To be associated with the Disney name is to maintain a clean, non-controversial image; admittedly, this is true of the media in general, especially in the age of cancel culture, but a true Disney Fanatic would know this has been the case for Disney Channel for decades now.
Perhaps it’s because of the stress experienced while working with the Mouse House and the quasi gag-order when it comes to talking about controversial subjects, that many former stars have become quite outspoken and vocal in their views as adults. Miley Cyrus is a great example of a star that had a rough time navigating the waters of her post-Disney journey, only to find herself in a safe and secure spot now, all these years later.
Another example is Sonny With a Chance star, Demi Lovato, who recently made headlines with her new song.
“Swine” by Demi Lovato
“Swine” is a new song by Demi Lovato. It’s one that she released on the one-year anniversary of the US Supreme Court’s decision to dismantle “the constitutional right to a safe abortion.” In the singer’s own words, she wanted to:
…Amplify the voices of those who advocate for choice and bodily autonomy. I want this song to empower not only the birthing people of this country, but everyone who stands up for equality, to embrace their agency and fight for a world where every person’s right to make decisions about their own body is honored.
Fans were incredibly divided on the song, with some praising and lauding the singer for her choices, and others calling to its controversial nature.

However, others felt the song was “cringe” and “awful.”
You can listen to the song, and decide for yourself how you feel about it.
