Futurama is just one of those series that will never truly die. The show has seen cancellations several times, but it always manages to return after a few years, thanks to its devoted and enthusiastic fanbase. While Comedy Central took a crack at reviving the series last time, Hulu has taken the reins for this outing. While much of the reboot has been a mystery, Hulu has recently pulled back the curtain to give eager fans a taste of what is coming.
Third Time’s a Charm
Futurama needs no introduction. The series, from the creator of The Simpsons, enjoyed massive success during its four-year run on Fox. Following its purchase by The Walt Disney Company, Hulu announced a revival for the series in February 2022, saying that it would release 20 new episodes starting in 2023. The streaming platform has now confirmed that the new season will debut on July 24. The announcement includes a new poster and a two-minute preview trailer of what to expect.

Good News, Everyone!
Fans have responded positively to the footage, ready to jump back into the show again once it hits Hulu. The trailer sees the entire cast settle into their roles easily, and the antics are based on typical pop culture and experiences of the past couple of years.
One scene shows Fry (Billy West), Leela (Katey Sagal), and Zoidberg (Billy West) learn how to use a ridiculously large cotton swab for their nose to test for disease via Professor Hubert Farnsworth (Billy West), which Zoidberg can’t wait to use repeatedly. Another pokes fun at crypto in a wild west setting. You can see the trailer in its entirety below.
The original cast is returning to reprise their roles, including the popular character Bender’s voice actor, John DiMaggio. When the project was first announced, DiMaggio was one of the only people not signed on to come back. The voice actor took a long time negotiating higher pay for the role but eventually agreed to return a month after the revival’s reveal.
Futurama originally ended its run with 20th Television Animation in 2003 but saw a reboot via Comedy Central from 2008 to 2013. It has been ten years since the show has seen new episodes, and fans on Twitter cannot wait to see what Hulu has in store for them. They remain cautiously optimistic that the revival can succeed on the streaming platform, much like The Simpsons still has a cult following. The show is widely regarded as having a perfect finale, but no series ever seems to end for real anymore.

Earlier this year, Disney announced it would change how it presented Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ content to audiences. This reveal has left many wondering if Disney would have to buy out Hulu from Comcast in its entirety. Comcast has a small claim to the streaming platform, but Disney oversees its operations. For now, however, fans can enjoy the Futurama revival when they arrive in late July.
