PHOTOS: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Ride Hits Another Major Milestone

Guardians of the Galaxy Ride Epcot

The Walt Disney World Resort in Central Florida is stepping closer and closer to the opening of its highly-anticipated attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. And on March 22, we noticed a significant milestone had been hit.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is officially on the map!

According to the MyDisneyExperience app, the new ride once again populates on the digital Disney Park map of EPCOT with the Xandarian starship clearly visible upfront. While it does not show up among the wait times list for obvious reasons, it is listed among all of the other Walt Disney World rides and attractions with the exciting words: “Opening Summer 2022!”

The MyDisneyExperience app rates this ride for Kids, Adults, Teens, and Tweens and is described as the following:

“Begin your adventure by touring the Galaxarium–a planetarium-like exhibition showcasing the similarities and differences between Xandar and Earth’s galaxies. You’ll even get to discover some of the incredible wonders of Xandar and learn about their technology.

Just as you are about to reach the culmination of the tour, everything goes sideways, and you are called into action to help the Guardians of the Galaxy. Are you ready to rock out on an awesome quest across the cosmos to save the galaxy? It’s all up to you!

This family-friendly attraction features the first-ever reverse-launch on a Disney coaster and is one of the longest enclosed coasters in the world! A new innovation from Walt Disney Imagineering–this coaster rotates 360 degrees so you can focus on the action!”

Cosmic Rewind will be the second Guardians of the Galaxy-themed attraction to hit Disney Theme Parks, following the transformation of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disneyland Resort’s Disney California Adventure Park into Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout–which became the first installment of what about become Marvel Avengers Campus.

Excitement has been building for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind since it was announced to be replacing Ellen’s Energy Adventure in Future World‘s Energy Pavilion. The attraction now takes place at the Xandar Pavilion, and the land was also renamed World Discovery. That excitement spiked when a Disney executive seemingly leaked that it would open on Memorial Day Weekend. However, such a statement has been backtracked, and Guests only have “Summer 2022” to officially rely on if they want to add this attraction to their Disney experience.

Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind is just the latest example of an ever-increasing sci-fi presence at the Disney Theme Parks. It follows the opening of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser near Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Pandora: The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and it will open before TRON: Lightcycle Power Run roller coaster which is currently being built at the Magic Kingdom. Along with hosting the first reverse launch in Disney history, it will also be the first Marvel-themed attraction to be built in Florida outside of Universal Studios Orlando.

We at Disney Fanatic will continue to update our readers on more news regarding Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and the rest of EPCOT’s ongoing construction as more developments come to light.
