Johnny Depp is easily one of the most talked about celebrities at the moment. After his high-profile hearing regarding the case with Amber Heard—with all the complications that came with it—the Hollywood megastar emerged victorious and has since worked to reclaim his career.

While we all know and love Depp in this iconic role now, there was a time in the film’s history when Depp was not in the running to be the swash-buckling, charismatic pirate. Reportedly, Robin Williams, Bill Murray, and Steve Martin were favored by filmmaker Steven Spielberg who’d expressed interest in the movie. Disney disagreed with his vision at the time, and the project was shelved.
It was only when producer Jerry Bruckheimer picked the temporarily abandoned project that actors like Johnny Depp were considered, and of course, the rest is history.

However, despite the apparent success that the Pirates of the Caribbean series brought Depp, Fandomwire recently reported that the veteran actor revealed during the Amber Heard defamation case that he’s never actually watched the first movie in the series—the one that earned him an Oscar nomination for “Best Actor” for his incredible performance.
While some may find the choice strange, a few called the move “baller.”
Founder of Puck News, Matthew Belloni, commented, “Johnny Depp just said in court he never saw the first Pirates movie. Remember, he was nominated for an Oscar for that film. Just a baller move right there.”
